Mercedes-Benz may have built one of the most impressive electric sedans currently on sale. The all-new 2026 CLA 350 EV just delivered a stunning real-world range result that significantly exceeded its official EPA estimate.
During Edmunds’ independent EV range testing, the dual-motor CLA 350 traveled an impressive 385 miles on a full charge. That figure beats the sedan’s official EPA-rated range of 312 miles by a massive 73 miles.
The result immediately places the new CLA among the strongest-performing luxury EVs in terms of real-world efficiency. More importantly, it suggests Mercedes may have engineered one of the few electric sedans capable of easing range anxiety for everyday buyers.
The timing could not be better for Mercedes-Benz. As EV competition intensifies and consumers become more selective about electric vehicles, range, charging speed, and efficiency matter more than flashy acceleration figures alone.
The CLA 350 Dramatically Outperformed Its EPA Rating

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA 350 4Matic uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 349 horsepower. Officially, Mercedes rates the compact luxury sedan at 312 miles of driving range from its 85-kWh battery pack.
Edmunds’ testing revealed the car can go much farther under real-world conditions. After completing the publication’s standardized EV route, the CLA 350 managed 385 miles before the battery was depleted.
That represents a 23.2% improvement over the EPA estimate. Few modern EVs outperform their official range figures by such a large margin.
The single-motor rear-wheel-drive CLA 250+ performed even more impressively during separate testing. Edmunds recorded an astonishing 434 miles of real-world range from the smaller-powertrain variant.
Efficiency Numbers Were Equally Impressive
The CLA’s strong range performance was matched by excellent efficiency results. According to EPA estimates, the CLA 350 should consume roughly 29 kWh per 100 miles.
Edmunds recorded just 25.7 kWh per 100 miles during testing instead. That makes the sedan nearly 13% more efficient than its official rating suggests.
Efficiency plays a massive role in real-world EV ownership. Strong efficiency not only extends range but also reduces charging costs and improves everyday usability during commuting or long-distance travel.
Mercedes appears to have focused heavily on aerodynamic optimization and power management with the new CLA. The sedan’s slippery shape and advanced battery systems clearly paid off during testing.
Charging Performance Also Beat Expectations

The CLA 350 did not stop impressing once it reached a charger. Mercedes claims the sedan supports charging speeds up to 320 kW using DC fast charging.
Edmunds recorded an even higher peak charging speed of 349 kW during testing. While peak figures only occur briefly, the overall charging curve remained extremely strong throughout the session.
The publication measured an average charging rate of 168 kW and an effective charging speed of roughly 654 miles of range added per hour. In practical terms, the CLA added 100 miles of driving range in just over nine minutes.
Those are genuinely impressive numbers for a compact luxury EV. Fast charging becomes increasingly important as buyers expect electric vehicles to behave more like traditional gasoline cars during road trips.
Mercedes Is Suddenly Extremely Competitive In The EV Segment
The CLA 350’s performance becomes even more interesting when compared against rivals. In Edmunds’ testing, the Mercedes outperformed several major competitors from Tesla, BMW, Hyundai, and Audi.
The Tesla Model 3 Standard Range managed 339 miles in the same test environment. BMW’s i4 eDrive40 covered 292 miles, while the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Limited RWD reached 343 miles.
Only the larger Audi A6 Sportback E-Tron Prestige AWD narrowly edged out the CLA 350 with 392 miles. That makes Mercedes’ compact EV sedan one of the strongest performers currently tested.
The CLA’s success also highlights how quickly EV technology continues evolving. Buyers now have access to smaller luxury EVs capable of delivering range figures that would have seemed impossible only a few years ago.
Mercedes Focused On Everyday Luxury, Not Just Performance
While the CLA 350 delivers strong acceleration and all-wheel-drive capability, reviewers say the sedan feels more refined than aggressively sporty. The focus appears to center on comfort, smoothness, and daily usability rather than outright track performance.
That positioning likely makes sense for the target audience. Most luxury EV buyers prioritize refinement, technology, quietness, and convenience over aggressive driving dynamics.
Edmunds also praised the CLA’s high-tech interior, distinctive styling, and polished driving manners. Mercedes seems to have successfully created a small luxury EV that feels premium without becoming overly complicated or gimmicky.
