The 1980s do seem to be a decade that automotive enthusiasts love. It was stacked full of cool cars like the Ferrari F40 and Lamborghini Countach, and the general aesthetic of the 1980s is one that people seem to love, as well as some rather excellent music. It looks like Ford is trying to tap into that feeling.
The Blue Oval recently took the covers off a new package for its Bronco SUV, which it has called Desert Rising. The package, limited to just 1,000 units, comes from the manufacturer’s Custom Garage.
Ford offers several special factory-backed aftermarket packages for an array of its vehicles. Not only is the Bronco included, but so are the likes of the Ford F-150 pickup truck, and this new package, while it does look decidedly 1980s, is actually inspired by the Utah desert.
Ford says a rare natural phenomenon that occurs in the desert was the inspiration behind this latest aftermarket design. The package also marks the first in the company’s new Horizon series of packages, with several more set to follow. This first package includes several interior and exterior changes to the existing SUV.
What You Get in the Ford Bronco Desert Rising Package
Ford has stated that the package will be limited to just 1,000 units, and each one will cost $13,695. It quickly set itself apart from the standard Bronco, thanks to its white trail sights and pink-painted grille. As standard, you also get white Method wheels and a white bucking Bronco emblem on the SUV.
If you want something a little extra, you can also get optional graphics for the SUV. These help to complete the look, but the changes don’t stop there. Step inside the Bronco and you will see magenta Katzkin leather seats and a serialized console badge to denote which unique number your particular SUV has. Ford has stated that the pack will be made available on trucks with white, black, gray, or red exterior colors. It is built off the Bronco Outer Banks model, and orders have already opened.
Ford took inspiration for the package from the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah. The phenomenon inspiring the car is the deep berry tones that the park gets as the sun rises and sets over it. Ford senior designer Bhavna Mistry said the package reflects the Bronco’s connection to desert racing, but with a focus on the aftermath of an event, when all racing is done. The available exterior colors include Oxford White, Shadow Black, Avalanche Gray and Ruby Red.
Other Details Help the Bronco To Pop
At the front, the painted grille is accentuated with the white taillights. The Bronco emblem also adds a nice splash of color, with all the extra details very prominent with the car painted in Oxford White. While you don’t have to have the graphics, we think they really help complete the look of the Ford SUV. The Method wheels also look fantastic and remind us that at the heart of it, this magenta SUV is all about off-roading.
There is some sound logic for Ford offering a modified version of the Bronco from the factory. Ford has said that nearly half of its customers want to modify their vehicles. However, aftermarket parts sometimes don’t fit, installing them can be tricky, and warranties can be voided. Offering modifications like this straight from the factory gives extra peace of mind when it comes to those issues.
