An elderly woman was pictured earlier in 2026 driving around in a Ford Mustang. That might not sound particularly newsworthy, but this rather remarkable woman celebrated her 100th birthday this year and refuses to give up her American sports car.

The woman in question is Barbara Haig, and she turned 100 on August 28th, 2026. The Atlanta resident has always loved convertibles, and the Mustang is one she has cherished for some time. Convertible cars and traveling are two of her biggest loves and passions in life.

Her story was picked up by 11Alive News recently, where she shared that her secret to longevity was simply not worrying about things. Incredibly, she has traveled to all seven continents, revealing just how much this woman loves traveling. But she also loves her convertible Ford Mustang.

ABC 11 was able to capture her driving the car and see just how much she loves her convertible muscle car. Only a few of us enthusiasts can dream of driving at that age, but Haig is proof that we can, and it’s clear she still loves driving.

Why Haig Chose a Ford Mustang Convertible

Despite having a heart valve replacement, Haig would not give up her Mustang. It turned out that she had actually given up on convertibles a few years ago, but she soon changed her mind. “In the Spring, I’d see people driving around in convertibles with the top down,” she said. “And I said, I gotta have another convertible,” she added.

So with that, the Ford Mustang was duly added to her collection. She doesn’t drive at night because of her age, and she has people check in on her to make sure she is okay and still happy to drive. She takes it steady, but she is more than happy to go for a few short drives in her Mustang, and is as full of life at 100 years old as many of us are in our 20s.

“I don’t worry about things,” said Haig, which is what she attributes to her longevity. We live in a world where there always seems to be something sad and depressing in the news, and where costs keep going up. But Haig shows us that we can still very much enjoy life with as little stress as possible. It has clearly worked for her, and the fact that she can still drive her Ford Mustang is a testament to that.

Driving a Convertible Is a Special Feeling

It is easy to see why Haig chose a convertible Ford Mustang. There is something very special about driving along on a spring day or in the summer with the roof of your car down. It gives you access to all that wonderful fresh air and light, something that is always good for the heart and mind.

The fact that it is a Mustang is even better, as it gives Haig and others with this muscle car access to all that power and the iconic Mustang shape.
