A Florida woman is accused of stealing two pumpkin-shaped cushions from a neighbor’s porch, then leaving them sitting on the golf cart she used to get away.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the theft happened around 8 p.m. on October 4 at a home in Davenport. The department shared the case in an October 6 post.

A security camera recorded a woman walking onto the porch and taking the two cushions, which the sheriff’s office valued at $60. She then got onto a golf cart and left.

The homeowner posted the video in a neighborhood Facebook group. According to the sheriff’s office, people identified the woman as someone who lived on the same street.

A detective later went to speak with the woman about the missing cushions, and the sheriff’s office said she denied taking them.

The detective then asked where her golf cart was. She told him it was inside her garage and that turned out to be a problem.

The Cushions Were Sitting on the Golf Cart

When the detective looked in the garage, the two pumpkin-shaped cushions were sitting on the golf cart, according to the sheriff’s office. The department said the woman then admitted taking them because she liked them.

Polk County deputies arrested 69-year-old Christine Ruth Freeman on October 5 and took her to the Sheriff’s Processing Center.

She Faces Two Charges

The sheriff’s office said Freeman was charged with burglary and petit theft. PCSO listed the burglary charge as a second-degree felony and the petit theft charge as a second-degree misdemeanor.

Polk County court records show a felony case was filed against Freeman on October 6. The case is listed as pending, with an arraignment scheduled for November 10 at 8:15 a.m.

The cushions were worth a combined $60, according to the sheriff’s office.
