“Damaged Cars Have Nothing to Lose”: Dashcam Footage Captures Road Rage That Turns Into a Brake Check

Some truly outrageous dashcam footage has captured the moment a bit of road rage became even more serious, thanks to a brake check. The footage has been shared on the r/dashcams SubReddit, and it was posted by user Flashmemory256, with the video currently standing at 5,000 upvotes.

The video is taken on a highway, and it appears normal at first. A few cars go past, and everything is unfolding without any incident. However, suddenly, one car slams on its brakes as a minivan comes up behind it.

We can hear exclamations of shock from those in the car we are riding in, as the minivan is forced to slam on its brakes before losing control. The car then suddenly shoots across in front of our car and into the wall on the other side. While the dashcam car tries to avoid it, it sadly gets clipped by the minivan.

It only seemed to be a tap, but they pull over into a safe spot between an exit and the highway and stop the car. At that point, the video ends, but it is clear to hear from the occupants that they are a bit rattled by the accident.

How the Accident Unfolded

This is one of the most bizarre bits of dashcam footage we have seen on the SubReddit so far. Nothing looks particularly out of place at the start of the video. But we see a white sedan roar up behind a minivan, overtake it, and then pull in front of it. This is the minivan and sedan involved in the accident a little later on.

Something had clearly taken place, or was taking place, between the two cars, and we can hear the occupants of the dashcam car discussing it. One of them mentioned how the white sedan had messed up bumpers and windshields, so clearly it had been involved in a few scrapes before this incident. It seemed to sit in front of the minivan afterwards, which was just out of shot.

It then pulls away and carries on, but the minivan suddenly follows it and comes roaring up behind the sedan. It gets closer and closer before, at the last second, the white sedan driver slammed on the brakes, causing the minivan to do the same and have to take evasive action. It then shoots across in front of us and into the wall on the other side of the highway, before the dashcam car is clipped as it comes back onto the road. Our car then pulls off between an exit and the highway to assess their damage and to check on the other driver.

Reddit Users Said To Avoid Beaten-up Cars

Clearly not wishing to stick around, the driver of the white sedan just accelerated and disappeared. While we don’t have the information from the video, you would hope they were tracked down by police later on due to them getting two other cars involved in an accident and potentially causing huge delays on the highway. Other Reddit users said the best thing to do when encountering a car like that sedan was to steer clear at all costs.

“When I see a damaged [expletive], I know they’ve got nothing to lose,” said one of the Reddit users. “Old cars like that, with taped-up windows and all that, aren’t the ones to mess with,” added another. Users said that, as the car was already beaten up, the driver/owner is unlikely to care too much about getting into a scrape or two. It was certainly very extreme, no matter what had happened before, to suddenly brake-check someone and cause an accident that could have resulted in serious injury.
