An Infiniti driver has claimed that we shouldn’t leave portable chargers inside our cars, after saying one exploded in his car and destroyed the center console. TikTok user Kamari (@kamariking12345) posted a video that has recently gone viral, with over 3.8 million views at the time of writing.

In the TikTok video, we can see the damage to the car almost instantly as Kamari reveals what had gone wrong inside his Infiniti. With heat in America being particularly bad at the moment, the car owner said this was partially to blame for his predicament.

As we can see, the center console has taken a huge amount of damage. It is melted, warped, and just a total mess, and whatever has gone wrong has gone wrong in a big way. Kamari blames the portable charger that he had left in his car overnight for the damage.

As you would expect, a video that reached this many people has caused great anxiety. There were plenty of people in the comments who were now all worried that they had left a portable charger of their own inside their vehicles. “Baby, let me go get mine out of the car right now,” said one of them.

What Damage Did the Portable Charger Do to the Infiniti?

In the video, we can see huge damage to the inside of the Infiniti. The center console is totally melted, with other parts warped well out of recognition, and there is almost nothing to show that this was once a center console. Even the cup holders themselves were unusable, as the console had basically folded in on itself.

“The portable charger blew up my car,” said the TikTok user. In addition to destroying the center console, the portable charger had also caused significant damage to the interior roof. There were also tears on the driver’s and passenger’s seats. In many ways, it looked like a small bomb had gone off inside the luxury SUV. “I just cleaned it up the best way I could,” said Kamari.

Following the initial video, Kamari then posted a follow-up to update on the car. Incredibly, the Infiniti was still working as if nothing had happened. Even the infotainment system and air-conditioning system were working as normal. Given the damage to the car, this is quite remarkable. It even started up the first time, and it was easily drivable despite the obvious damage that the portable charger had caused.

Viewers Were Happy To Be Warned About the Damage

Despite the fact that it was clearly bad for Kamari, the warning was seen as a blessing for others. People in the comments section of the video were incredibly grateful for the video, as it meant they could remove the electronics from their own cars. “PSA: don’t leave anything with a lithium battery in a hot car. It should be a given, but it definitely isn’t,” one TikTok commenter said.

“You just saved so many people from absolute destruction. I’m sorry this happened to you,” another said. Chargers can be left inside cars, but with how hot it has been in recent times, that can speed up the chemical reactions inside these devices. Particularly if they are left open in the car and in direct sunlight. This video from Kamari, while unfortunate, could really help millions of people out.
