Of all the places to test your driving skills after a few too many, the parking lot of a state police barracks has to rank near the bottom of the list. But that’s reportedly exactly where a Florida truck driver found himself early this month, after allegedly plowing his rig into an empty cruiser parked right outside the Sturbridge Barracks in Massachusetts.

According to Massachusetts State Police, the incident unfolded on August 3, 2026, when the driver’s tractor trailer struck the unoccupied cruiser hard enough to shove it up onto a curb and into a nearby light pole. That alone would be a rough morning for anyone involved. But the truck reportedly kept going, rolling over some shrubs before circling around behind the barracks in what troopers described as an apparent attempt to leave the scene.

Here’s the thing about trying to make a getaway from a building full of state troopers: it doesn’t tend to work out. Troopers caught up with the truck moments later and, upon making contact with the driver, noticed the classic warning signs, an unsteady walk, glassy eyes, and the smell of alcohol.

Timothy Dorsey, 50, of Pensacola, Florida, was taken into custody and brought to Dudley District Court for arraignment. He’s facing charges of leaving the scene of property damage, operating under the influence of liquor, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The good news in all of this is that no troopers or bystanders were hurt, which is the best possible outcome given how the situation played out.

A Rig, a Cruiser, and a Light Pole Walk Into a Parking Lot

Big rigs and parked vehicles are never a good combination, but there’s something almost cinematic about this particular sequence of events. A tractor trailer striking a cruiser, launching it into a light pole, then bulldozing through landscaping before attempting a slow-motion escape around the building.

It sounds like the setup for a bad action movie, except this one comes with real charges and a real court date.

Why Leaving the Scene Rarely Ends Well

Troopers are trained to notice things, and a tractor trailer rumbling behind their own barracks tends to get noticed fairly quickly. Attempting to drive away after hitting a parked patrol car outside a building full of, well, patrol cars, is not exactly a high-percentage play.

It’s a good reminder that leaving the scene of any crash, however minor it might seem in the moment, almost always makes things worse.

The Charges Ahead

Dorsey now faces three charges stemming from the incident, and it will be up to the courts to sort out the details from here. For now, the cruiser and the light pole bore the brunt of the damage, and thankfully that’s where the story ends.

We’ve all seen plenty of parking lot fender-benders, but this one has a bit of everything: a big rig, a police cruiser, a light pole, and a scenic detour through the shrubbery. It’s a strange one, but we’re glad it ended without anyone getting hurt.
