Two teenagers were arrested after a high-speed chase through Portland ended in a crash and the discovery of a large quantity of fentanyl, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Authorities said officers initially attempted to stop a vehicle on Saturday, but the driver refused to pull over and sped away. Police pursued the car as it raced through parts of the city, creating a dangerous situation for other motorists and pedestrians.
The chase continued until the vehicle eventually crashed near the Glen Jackson Bridge. Officers quickly moved in and took the occupants into custody without further incident.
Investigators later identified the driver as a 17-year-old male and the passenger as a 19-year-old man. Both now face multiple charges related to the pursuit and the drugs found inside the vehicle.
Large Amount of Fentanyl Recovered
Following the crash, officers searched the vehicle and uncovered what police described as a significant amount of fentanyl.
Reports indicate that investigators seized approximately eight pounds of the synthetic opioid, along with cash and several cell phones believed to be connected to drug trafficking activities.
Fentanyl has become one of the most dangerous narcotics circulating in communities across the United States. Even small amounts can be deadly, and authorities have repeatedly warned about its role in the nation’s ongoing overdose crisis.
Officials have not released additional details about where the drugs originated or their intended destination, but investigators believe the seizure prevented a large quantity of the deadly substance from reaching the streets.

In addition to accusations related to possessing and distributing fentanyl, the driver may face charges connected to reckless driving, attempting to elude police and other traffic violations.
Police have not publicly released the names of the suspects because one of those arrested is a juvenile.
Authorities say the investigation remains active, and detectives are working to determine whether the pair had connections to a larger network involved in narcotics distribution.
