Some say that people tend to get angry when they’re hungry, and that is likely what happened to the driver of a Nissan Patrol, causing him to crash into a Volkswagen hatchback in front.

While that sounds a bit extreme, he also threatened the driver of the other car with nothing but a screwdriver. But all this for what?

The ordeal ultimately proved pointless, as he fled the scene, abandoning his damaged Nissan Patrol in the drive-thru and disrupting business operations.

What’s more, he escaped without taking the food with him. If only he had waited for a little while, he would not have come under the police’s radar.

The incident occurred in Australia at a drive-thru on the Gold Coast on a rainy night, when the Nissan Patrol driver pulled up behind a hatchback.

According to News.com.au, the brown Nissan Patrol entered a Guzman y Gomez on Laver Drive in Robina at around 9.50 p.m. last Saturday, and immediately signaled that he was frustrated by the wait time.

The police said the driver attempted to leave the queue but was unable to do so because of the car in front. He might have then thought he could push the other car out of the way and make his escape.

However, he quickly discovered that the plan had backfired after he crashed into the hatchback in front of him, as his Nissan Patrol became stuck after the collision. Notably, images show the hatchback was significantly damaged at the rear upon impact.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the frustrated Nissan Patrol driver made a lot of noise by revving the engine. They said:

“There was lots of engine revving – like really, really loud.”

After crashing into the hatchback, the Nissan Patrol driver got out and threatened the other driver with a screwdriver.

Drive-thru customers, Saavanah and Quin, who witnessed the incident, said:

“He’s like ramming the car, trying to get out, then you see teenagers at the back of the line yelling ‘he’s got a screwdriver’.”

They added:

“There’s a list of things I would do prior to destroying my car… maybe like wait patiently.”

7News reported that the Nissan Patrol was also significantly damaged, and both cars could be total losses. Another eyewitness, Ben Zoffman, revealed that the situation escalated quickly, forcing other cars behind to back off. He said:

“All the cars were reversing out of the drive‑thru — probably nine or 10 cars.”

Police said the man had threatened other people before fleeing the scene, leaving empty-handed and abandoning both his vehicle and his meal. Unfortunately, the driver of the hatchback sustained minor injuries and was treated at the drive-thru.

Now, the police are on the lookout for the Patrol driver and have seized his car to investigate further. Witnesses have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
