GMC has officially unveiled the redesigned 2027 Sierra 1500, revealing an interior that takes a significant leap forward in both technology and premium features. While the truck’s exterior evolves with a more modern appearance, the biggest transformation happens inside the cabin, where larger displays, smarter storage solutions, and upscale materials reinforce GMC’s premium ambitions.
The new Sierra follows the recently revealed 2027 Chevrolet Silverado, sharing its updated platform and powertrain lineup. Despite the mechanical similarities, GMC has gone to greater lengths to distinguish the Sierra with exclusive interior features and luxury-focused technology.
Among the highlights is a clever hidden storage compartment concealed behind the truck’s massive center touchscreen. It’s a feature exclusive to the Sierra and one that Chevrolet’s Silverado doesn’t offer, giving GMC buyers an extra touch of functionality alongside the truck’s tech-heavy cabin.
The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is expected to reach dealerships later this year. Pricing and complete equipment details will be announced closer to launch.
Bigger Screens And Smarter Technology

The redesigned Sierra features an all-new dashboard dominated by a 16.3-inch center touchscreen, replacing the outgoing truck’s 13.4-inch display. It is paired with a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, while higher trims can also be equipped with an 11.5-inch display dedicated to the front passenger.
Depending on the trim level, the truck can also be fitted with a 15-inch head-up display and an 8.5-inch digital rearview mirror. Combined, GMC says the Sierra can offer well over 60 inches of digital displays across the cabin.
Unlike the Silverado, the Sierra’s center touchscreen can also move electronically to reveal a hidden storage compartment behind the display. The concealed cubby comes standard on Elevation, Denali, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate models, offering a secure place to store small valuables while adding a unique party trick to the dashboard.
Practical Features Meet Luxury Touches
GMC hasn’t focused solely on technology. The company has also introduced several practical features designed to make the Sierra more useful during everyday work and recreation.
The redesigned MultiPro center console can transform into a flat work surface while also providing deep storage underneath. Two available magnetic wireless charging pads hold smartphones upright, making them easier to see while charging.
A panoramic sunroof joins the options list for the first time in Sierra history. It comes standard on Denali, Denali Ultimate, and AT4X models, while remaining optional on AT4 and Elevation trims.
Premium Materials Set The Sierra Apart

Higher trim levels receive a number of exclusive upgrades intended to separate the Sierra from its Chevrolet sibling. Denali Ultimate models feature open-pore birch wood trim, while unique color combinations, premium stitching patterns, and upgraded materials appear throughout the cabin.
The off-road-focused AT4X and luxury-oriented Denali Ultimate also receive a new 16-speaker Bose premium audio system. The setup includes speakers integrated directly into the front-seat headrests, creating a more immersive listening experience for both driver and passenger.
Additional AT4X-exclusive upgrades include more aggressively bolstered front seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and metal speaker grilles. Despite the truck’s heavy reliance on digital displays, GMC has intentionally retained physical buttons for major functions, saying customers still value tactile controls for everyday use.
Familiar Engines Beneath The New Cabin
Although the interior receives the most dramatic overhaul, the 2027 Sierra also introduces an updated range of powertrains. Like the new Chevrolet Silverado, it adopts GM’s next-generation naturally aspirated small-block V8 engines.
The new lineup includes fresh 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter V8 options replacing the outgoing 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines. Buyers will also be able to choose the returning 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder and the 3.0-liter Duramax inline-six diesel, with every engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Off-road capability also improves for 2027. The AT4 now rides on larger 34-inch tires, while the flagship AT4X upgrades to 35-inch rubber and adds Multimatic Jounce Control dampers alongside its existing DSSV suspension hardware.
GMC Pushes Further Into Premium Territory
The latest Sierra demonstrates GMC’s strategy of positioning itself above Chevrolet within General Motors’ truck lineup. While the Silverado and Sierra continue to share their mechanical foundation, GMC is placing greater emphasis on premium materials, exclusive technology, and innovative convenience features.
The hidden storage compartment behind the center touchscreen may seem like a small detail, but it reflects the broader direction of the new Sierra. Combined with a redesigned cabin, expanded digital displays, and upgraded luxury appointments, the 2027 model aims to deliver a more upscale experience without sacrificing the capability full-size truck buyers expect.
