A rather bizarre story recently emerged from Malaysia after it was reported that a woman had crashed her Porsche sports car into a hotel lobby. Local news outlets began reporting the incident before it was reported globally, with the authorities already beginning an investigation into how the incident happened.
The incident happened a few days ago at Persiaran Gurney in George Town, Penang, at around 11 a.m. The woman driving the Porsche had been visiting family members, and was on her way home before she lost control of the sports car and slammed into the hotel lobby.
Now, you might expect there to be various factors behind the incident. Perhaps the woman had driven home in heavy rain, or just been driving too fast, or maybe something had gone wrong with the car. As it turned out, she was driving too fast, but not because she was deliberately speeding.
In what has become a truly outrageous incident, the Northeast Police are beginning to investigate the incident, with it being reported under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act for careless and inconsiderate driving. If she is found guilty, the woman involved could face up to 12 months in prison.
How This Woman Crashed Her Porsche Into a Hotel Lobby
According to NST Online, the 61-year old woman had been out to visit family members. She had simply been driving home, but apparently she stepped on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake by mistake. Taken aback by the sudden acceleration, she quickly lost control of the Porsche, and well, we all know how this story ended.
She lost control of the Porsche and then ended up ramming her car into the lobby of a hotel, with the incident taking place at 11:15 in the morning. Images shared online show the sports car slammed right into a bar area in the lobby, with glass all over the car and all sorts of damage having been done. We can’t see the front of the car, but we imagine it too has taken a significant hit. We don’t know exactly how fast she had been going when she flew through the lobby.
According to the Northeast police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the extent of losses is still being investigated. The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act for careless driving. If she is found guilty, the driver could face up to 12 months in jail, with a maximum fine of RM 10,000, roughly $2,481 at the current exchange rate.
How Did She Lose Control of the Porsche?

Mistaking the accelerator for the brake pedal is an unusual mistake and an odd one. It also begs the question of whether her foot was already on the gas, and if she got distracted and simply planted her foot down without thinking. If the driver had been distracted, it could change the punishment that she faces. It was reported that nobody was injured in the incident, meaning everyone involved had a very lucky escape.
