If you’re planning to outrun the police, there are a few things you’ll probably want on your side. Speed helps. Agility doesn’t hurt. And ideally, your getaway vehicle should be something other than a commercial dump truck.
According to police, one New Jersey man appears to have skipped that part of the planning process entirely. Authorities say he was driving a stolen dump truck when police attempted to stop him.
To make things even stranger, the driver appears to have been talking to TikTok while the chase was underway. Not long after announcing, “Yo TikTok, I got a cop on me,” the whole situation went from chaotic to embarrassing in a hurry. What followed was a police pursuit, a loss of control, and a crash that ended the truck’s brief and questionable run as a getaway vehicle.
For a local business, it was a costly mess. For everyone else watching the video, it was the kind of story that sounds made up until you see the footage.
The Getaway Plan Started Falling Apart Fast
JunkDoctors says the stolen truck was taken during the early hours of June 5, 2026, before the pursuit ended in a rollover crash. According to police, the truck was stolen from a Denville business before eventually finding itself on the wrong end of flashing lights. Much of what happened next was captured by a dashcam mounted inside the vehicle, though the footage is far more useful for listening than watching. The camera appears to use a wide-angle fisheye lens aimed primarily at the road ahead, meaning viewers spend most of the video looking at pavement while the driver provides his own running commentary.
Around the 12-minute mark, sirens can be heard in the background as the driver realizes police are behind him. Rather than quietly accepting that the situation may not be headed in a positive direction, he chooses to narrate the experience, occasionally making insulting comments about the officers pursuing him.
At one point, he can be heard saying, “Yo TikTok, I got a cop on me,” suggesting that either a livestream or future social media post was a priority during the alleged getaway attempt. In hindsight, it serves as a surprisingly accurate timestamp for when things began going wrong. Not long afterward, the truck loses control and tips onto its side, instantly ending its brief and unsuccessful career as a getaway vehicle.

The mood inside the cab changes dramatically after the crash. Gone are the earlier comments directed at the police. In their place are repeated apologies, assurances that there are no weapons inside, and statements that the driver is trapped. As officers surround the overturned truck and begin trying to break through the glass, the video comes to resemble a cautionary tale about why heavy commercial vehicles are rarely featured in successful escape plans.
A Costly Ending to a Bad Idea
While the video has attracted attention for its unusual combination of a dump truck, TikTok commentary, and a rollover crash, the consequences are far more serious than a few viral clips. According to JunkDoctors, the truck involved was a paid-off company asset valued at approximately $73,000, with the dump body alone reportedly worth around $40,000. The company described the vehicle as an important part of its daily operations, helping crews complete jobs throughout northern and central New Jersey. Following the crash, the truck was declared a total loss.
Police later identified the suspect as Timothy Geary, 24, of Whippany. Authorities charged him with burglary and theft of a motor vehicle, and he remains in custody pending court proceedings. While legal systems will ultimately determine the outcome, the financial damage has already been done. However, JunkDoctors noted that the incident occurred around 3 a.m., pointing out that the outcome could have been far worse had the chase unfolded during morning rush hour.
When a Police Pursuit Becomes Social Media Content
At some point, the line between living a moment and documenting it seems to have become increasingly blurred. The alleged theft of a dump truck was already a questionable decision. Narrating the resulting police pursuit for TikTok added an entirely different layer of absurdity.
It also serves as a reminder of how much modern life revolves around attention, views, and engagement. For better or worse, nearly everything has the potential to become content. In this case, the pursuit ended, the truck was totaled, and the video remains as a permanent reminder that not every idea deserves a livestream.
