New York’s airport curbside drama usually involves missed flights, oversized luggage, and drivers leaning on their horns. This time, though, a gray Infiniti SUV turned JFK’s drop-off lane into an accidental demolition derby.
The now-viral clip was posted by ClownWorld on X. It shows an SUV owner making a spectacularly expensive decision after his vehicle was hooked up by a tow truck at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Instead of paying the release fee and driving away with his luxury crossover intact, the driver climbed into the Infiniti while it was still attached to the tow rig. Seconds later, the SUV was missing most of its front end and leaking fluids onto the airport roadway.
For automotive fans, the footage is painful to watch. For everyone else online, it has become the latest entry in the internet’s growing collection of “this could have been avoided” moments.
The Infiniti Owner Tried To Beat the Tow Truck
The incident happened at night in one of JFK’s tightly controlled terminal drop-off areas, where airport authorities keep traffic moving by cracking down on drivers who stop too long or leave vehicles unattended. Video from the scene shows the gray Infiniti crossover already lifted by the front wheels and connected to a tow truck.
The operator can reportedly be heard warning the owner not to drive the vehicle while it is hooked up. That advice did not land.
The SUV owner entered the vehicle, turned on the headlights, shifted into reverse, and mashed the throttle while the front end remained attached to the towing hardware. The result was immediate and violent.
As the Infiniti jerked backward, the front bumper, splash shields, and underbody components tore apart under the strain. The SUV then slammed onto the pavement with a crunch that sounded expensive even through a phone speaker.
Thousands in Damage Over a Much Smaller Fee
Witnesses and social media commenters say the release fee was somewhere between $150 and $500. Even at the higher end, that number now looks microscopic compared to the repair bill facing the Infiniti owner.
The impact appeared to rip apart cooling components and parts of the lower front structure. Steam or smoke could be seen pouring from underneath the crossover moments after it dropped to the ground.
Coolant leaked onto the roadway while broken pieces of plastic and trim scattered around the airport lane. The Infiniti looked less like a luxury SUV and more like a project car abandoned behind a repair shop.
Modern crossovers pack a surprising amount of hardware behind the front bumper. Sensors, active grille shutters, cooling lines, wiring harnesses, and radiator supports all live in that area.
