Tesla has sharply reduced the price of its most powerful Cybertruck variant in the United States while also unveiling a new lower-cost configuration. This comes as the company’s latest attempt to reignite interest in its futuristic electric pickup amid intensifying competition in the EV truck segment.

The company confirmed that the price of the Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast has been cut from $114,990 to $99,990. The roughly $15,000 reduction marks one of the most notable price adjustments Tesla has made for the model since deliveries began.

At the same time, Tesla introduced a new entry point to the Cybertruck lineup. The new Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor AWD now starts at $59,990 in the U.S., making it the most affordable Cybertruck offered so far.

The pricing shift was confirmed by Tesla chief executive Elon Musk, who suggested the $59,990 starting price could be a limited time offer designed to stimulate demand. Musk indicated the lower price may only remain available for about ten days.

A Marketing Tactic or Genuine Deadline?

Tesla’s recent Cybertruck price adjustments—cutting the Cyberbeast by $15,000 and introducing a $59,990 Dual Motor AWD variant—were accompanied by Elon Musk’s claim that the lower entry price would only last about ten days. While this framing suggests urgency, there are strong reasons to view it as a marketing tactic rather than a firm deadline.

First, Tesla has a history of using time-limited offers to stimulate demand, only to keep similar pricing structures in place afterward. For example, past “temporary” discounts on Model 3 and Model Y configurations often became permanent or were replaced by comparable incentives.

Second, the EV truck market is intensifying, with Ford’s discontinued F-150 Lightning, Rivian’s R1T, and GM’s Silverado EV competing aggressively. Tesla’s Cybertruck rollout has faced production bottlenecks and mixed reviews, so lowering the entry price is a logical move to broaden appeal.

By presenting the discount as fleeting, Musk creates psychological urgency—pushing hesitant buyers to act quickly—while retaining the option to maintain or reintroduce similar pricing later to sustain demand.

Third, Tesla’s direct-to-consumer model allows it to adjust prices instantly without dealer constraints. This flexibility means the company can announce “limited time” offers, gauge consumer response, and then quietly normalize the lower price if it proves effective. In practice, Tesla often uses this tactic to test demand elasticity rather than to enforce strict deadlines.

Taken together, Musk’s statement is arguably less a binding promise and more a demand-generation strategy. The likelihood is high that, even after the supposed ten-day window, Cybertruck pricing will remain close to current levels—or be reshaped into new incentives—because Tesla’s broader goal is to secure market share in a crowded EV truck segment.

A Crowded Field Heats Up

Tesla’s stainless-steel pickup has generated enormous attention since its debut but translating that buzz into sustained sales momentum has proven more complicated. Early demand surged when the truck was first revealed, but analysts have increasingly questioned how large the long-term market for such a radical design might be.

The Cybertruck entered a market that now includes several electric pickup rivals. Models such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T have already established themselves with buyers who want a more traditional truck shape paired with battery power.

Tesla’s strategy has often relied on aggressive pricing to drive volume. Over the past few years, the company has repeatedly lowered prices across its lineup in response to softening demand and rising competition in the global EV market. Similar adjustments have been made for popular models like the Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3.

The Cybertruck’s pricing change also coincides with the removal of certain bundled perks that previously accompanied higher trim levels. Earlier configurations included what Tesla called the “Luxe Package,” which offered benefits such as supervised Full Self Driving capability and complimentary access to the company’s Supercharger network for a limited period.

Removing or restructuring these extras may allow Tesla to reduce headline prices while protecting margins on optional software and services. Tesla has increasingly leaned on software features as a source of revenue, particularly advanced driver assistance capabilities that can be activated after purchase.

Production Hurdles and Bold Ambitions

Production challenges have also complicated the Cybertruck rollout. The vehicle’s stainless-steel body and unconventional construction required Tesla to develop new manufacturing techniques. That complexity contributed to delays before the truck finally entered customer hands.

Since deliveries began, the model has also been associated with a number of recalls and quality related concerns. While recalls are common across the automotive industry, they can dampen early enthusiasm for a new vehicle. Tesla has addressed these issues through software updates and service campaigns.

Even with those hurdles, the Cybertruck remains one of the most visually distinctive vehicles on the road. Its angular design, unpainted steel body panels and high-performance specifications set it apart from nearly every other pickup currently available.

Now What?

The Cyberbeast trim in particular targets buyers looking for extreme capability. The tri motor configuration offers blistering acceleration that rivals high performance sports cars, while still delivering the towing and utility expected from a full-size pickup.

By lowering the Cyberbeast price and introducing a more affordable dual motor version, Tesla appears to be widening the truck’s appeal to a broader group of customers.

Whether the strategy succeeds will depend on how buyers respond in the coming months. For Tesla, the Cybertruck remains a technological showcase and a high stakes experiment in redefining the electric pickup.
