Screaming at strangers at a Costco gas station is already a bold life choice. Chasing one of those strangers down the street in your Toyota Corolla because she suggested your membership get canceled? That is a different category of decision altogether.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Valeria Andrea Aguilar was at the Costco gas station on West Flagler Street last Wednesday, where she was reportedly screaming at other customers and the station attendant. A nearby driver pulled up and told the attendant to revoke Aguilar’s Costco membership over her behavior, according to the report.

That suggestion did not go over well.

From Gas Pump To High-Speed Chase (Half a Mile)

Aguilar reportedly took off on foot after the woman’s Subaru Forester, then got into her own vehicle and continued the pursuit. The chase covered roughly half a mile before ending at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Street and 82nd Avenue, where Aguilar allegedly reached through the victim’s open window and punched her in the head, then grabbed her clothing and scratched her face, arms, and chest, according to the report.

To recap: someone tried to handle a Karen situation through proper institutional channels and was attacked for it.

She Brought an AX. Problem Solved

Here is where the story pivots in a satisfying direction. The victim, fearing for her life, grabbed what authorities described as an “ax/multitool” and used it to defend herself, which gave her enough of an opening to escape, according to the report.

Aguilar was treated at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where she was taken into custody, according to authorities. She was charged with burglary with assault or battery, a first-degree felony, and a judge ordered her held without bond.

As for the victim? She drove away in her Subaru, presumably with both her Costco membership and her ax fully intact.
