A woman has taken to TikTok to voice her displeasure, stating that her roadside assistance coverage, which she has paid for for over 17 years, was cancelled after she decided to use the coverage. TikToker Mandy (@mandyv91) posted the ordeal in a video on her account.
Mandy said she had received a letter from her roadside assistance provider that told her they’d canceled her service after 17 years. The letter reportedly said that her using her coverage four times in two years was to blame for the cancellation, which perplexed Mandy.
Her video has been viewed over 48,000 times at the time of writing. “They canceled my emergency road service coverage because I [expletive] used it,” she said in the video. It must be stressed that it was just the emergency road service coverage they had canceled, not the underlying auto policy.
However, it is still quite a perplexing decision. It left Mandy questioning how much use of her emergency coverage is considered too much for the recovery company. The coverage exists specifically for various breakdowns and roadside emergencies, which Mandy wouldn’t have requested if she wasn’t in those situations.
Why Was the Coverage Cancelled?

Mandy claimed that her use of the coverage four times in two years had gotten it suspended. It left viewers of her video baffled, as they questioned what the point of the coverage was if you aren’t able to use it. Her comments section was filled with other road users who said they had been through similar ordeals.
Some of these users said they had made what they thought were routine claims for recovery. One of the users said they had worked for three different companies and that all three can sometimes take action if they feel someone has requested assistance too much. That does seem counterproductive, and it will just leave people stranded on the side of the road if you won’t come to assist in recovering them.
Another said something similar. They claimed that one of the companies canceled her coverage for “excessive claims.” They said they had filed a glass claim and a roadside call, spread over about two years, which certainly doesn’t appear excessive.
Most of these roadside assistance companies can help with battery jump-starts, tire changes, towing, delivery of gas, and lockouts. Oil and replacement batteries are also covered, and these companies don’t appear to have a limit on how often assistance can be requested. State Farm, for example, doesn’t state there is a limit on its website.
Other TikTok Users Offered Some Advice

Given the frustration shared by Mandy and some other road users, several TikTok viewers tried to leave comments offering advice and assistance. Some suggested keeping roadside assistance separate from auto insurance coverage.
“I got AAA and took [State Farm] off all of my cars,” said one user. “AAA has been a lifesaver for my kids!” they added. State Farm’s consumer guidance does seem to suggest that roadside assistance can fall into a gray area.
One other user stated they had used AAA for roadside assistance and had to make six calls in one year, but wasn’t dropped by the company. Companies such as AAA tend to operate differently from the coverage that is applied to auto insurance policies.
The situation Mandy went through does, however, appear to be quite excessive. It can place a lot of distrust between the customer and the companies, for fear they might get abandoned again.
