A teenager from Detroit is facing pretty hefty felony charges after what officers discovered in his home when they executed a search warrant. It was said that the teen was connected to a string of thefts involving Ram truck infotainment systems across Macomb County.
The operation stems from a several-month-long investigation concerning the infotainment systems of Ram trucks, which act as the truck’s main multimedia interface. These systems have become a target for thieves in the area as of late.
During an investigation at the teenager’s residence, four Ram infotainment screens and related modules were found, each likely stolen from vehicles in St. Clair Shores. Officials also said additional property believed to have been stolen from vehicles was discovered during the warrant execution.
As a result of the investigation, 18-year-old Rajah Jamir Pritchard-Dixon of Detroit was taken into custody. The arrest comes after investigators spent months tracking a growing number of thefts involving Ram truck infotainment systems throughout several communities in Macomb County.
Nearly 30 Ram Truck Thefts Put Investigators on High Alert
Members of the Macomb Auto Theft Squad (M.A.T.S.) and the Sheriff’s Enforcement Team (S.E.T.) executed a search warrant on June 12 at a home located in the 21600 block of Moross Road in Detroit. This home was a part of an ongoing investigation into stolen vehicle components.
Since April, the Macomb Auto Theft Squad has been investigating at least 29 reported thefts involving Ram infotainment systems in Warren, Eastpointe, Roseville, and St. Clair Shores. While officials did not specify how many thefts investigators believe may be connected to the suspect, the recovery of multiple stolen screens suggests authorities may have interrupted a broader theft operation.
Ram truck owners in particular have faced repeated warnings in several states regarding thefts involving expensive electronic modules and dashboard components.
What Was the Suspect Charged With?
Authorities charged Pritchard-Dixon with one count of breaking and entering a vehicle, causing damage, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, as well as one count of attempted larceny from a motor vehicle, which carries a potential sentence of up to two and a half years.
Court records show Pritchard-Dixon was arraigned in the 37th District Court following his arrest. A judge issued a $50,000 cash or surety bond and ordered that he be placed on a tether if released from custody.
For now, officials say the case remains active. Authorities have not disclosed whether additional suspects may be involved or if more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
