This is the kind of crash you expect to see in a video game, not on a real freeway.
A blue Corvette went airborne off the 60 Freeway in the City of Industry, flipping multiple times before crashing directly into a Maserati dealership. The footage, captured and reported by KTLA 5, shows a sequence that is hard to process in real time, a car launching off the roadway and disappearing into a violent tumble.
Video of the crash shows the Corvette flipping end over end multiple times, not a simple rollover but a full airborne cartwheel. It crosses lanes, lifts off, and starts tumbling in a way that feels more like a physics engine than real life, which makes what happens next even harder to believe.
And somehow, despite all of it, both people inside got out on their own.
What Happened on the 60 Freeway
Embeded media follows, please allow a moment for it to load.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. on the westbound side of the 60 Freeway near the Azusa Avenue exit. Authorities say the Corvette veered across lanes, left the roadway, went airborne, and flipped several times before coming down inside a Maserati dealership property. Witness video shows the car crossing multiple lanes at speed before losing control, launching off the roadway, and cartwheeling through the air.
A witness told reporters the Corvette appeared to be traveling at a very high rate of speed before the crash, estimating it may have been “well over 110 mph” before losing control. The same witness also suggested multiple vehicles may have been driving recklessly leading up to the incident.
At this stage, the California Highway Patrol has not confirmed racing and says there is no corroborating evidence to support that claim, leaving a gap between what people think they are seeing and what investigators can actually prove.
Damage Was Extensive, Outcome Was Not
The impact caused significant property damage, snapping a concrete light pole at its base, tearing through roughly 30 feet of fencing, and shattering several large dealership windows. The Corvette ultimately came to rest on its side against the building after tearing through the perimeter. A dealership manager said no Maseratis were damaged, which almost feels secondary given what the video shows.
Despite the scale of the crash, the driver and passenger were able to get out of the vehicle without injuries, according to authorities. That outcome stands in sharp contrast to the violence of the crash itself, which easily could have ended very differently not just for the people inside the Corvette, but for anyone else on that stretch of freeway.
Internet Reactions: “More Car Than Driver”
Online reaction to the crash has been immediate and, in many cases, brutally direct. A lot of commenters pointed to what they saw as a clear case of a driver pushing a high-performance car past their limits, with one writing, “Money can’t buy skill,” while another summed it up as “more car than driver.” Others were even more blunt, calling it “ran out of talent” or saying the driver had “zero business operating a car like that.”
Plenty of people focused on what they believed was happening in the moments before the crash. Comments described the Corvette weaving through traffic, cutting across lanes, and trying to move too aggressively at speed. Several viewers insisted it looked like racing, even as authorities have not confirmed that, highlighting the disconnect between public perception and the official investigation.
At the same time, many were simply stunned by the outcome. “Dang they survived that?” one commenter wrote, while others called it a “miracle” or said the occupants must have had “guardian angels.” The violence of the crash, combined with the lack of serious injuries, became one of the biggest talking points.
And then there was the humor, because this is the internet. Jokes ranged from “That’s not how a trade-in works” to “fastest way to trade in your car,” with others saying they were just glad “none of the Maseratis got hurt.” One commenter even joked the crash was “an ad for Corvette safety features,” while another said it looked like someone trying to make their own Fast & Furious scene.
The Part That Matters
Crashes like this always walk a strange line between spectacle and reality. The video is shocking, and it is easy to see why it is getting shared everywhere. At the same time, it is a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong when speed and public roads mix.
Earlier this week, we reported on another high speed Corvette crash where the driver did not walk away. This time, they did. That does not change the reality that speed belongs on the track, not on public roads.
You can outrun traffic for a moment. You cannot outrun physics. And when something does go wrong at those speeds, cars do not just crash. They leave the ground, they tumble, and they turn into something no one on a public road should ever have to deal with.
