Two people were pulled from a vehicle as it continued to fill with floodwater during a busy evening for firefighters in Glen Rock, New Jersey.
The Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department said crews responded to 15 flooding-related calls for service as storms brought difficult conditions to the area.
Among those calls was a vehicle trapped in floodwater with two occupants still inside, creating what the department described as one of the most serious incidents of the evening.
Firefighters worked alongside the Glen Rock Police Department, entering the water and pulling both occupants from the vehicle as water continued to fill it.
The rescue unfolded as storms caused flooding and other weather-related problems across parts of New Jersey, including downed trees and wires and disruption on several major roads.
15 Flooding Calls Keep Crews Busy
The vehicle rescue was part of a demanding evening for Glen Rock firefighters, who were called out repeatedly as flooding affected the community.
“This evening’s storm brought another challenging evening for our firefighters,” the department said.
By the end of the evening, crews had responded to 15 calls for service connected to flooding.
The volume of calls highlighted the localized impact of the storm in Glen Rock as emergency services dealt with multiple incidents over the course of the evening.
Two Pulled to Safety as Vehicle Fills With Water
One call quickly developed into a particularly serious situation when crews encountered a vehicle trapped in floodwater with two people inside.
Members of the fire department entered the water alongside Glen Rock Police as the vehicle continued to fill, and both occupants were pulled from the vehicle and brought to safety.
The department did not provide further details about how the vehicle became trapped or identify the two people involved in its account of the rescue.
Storm Brings Wider Disruption Across New Jersey
Glen Rock was not the only community dealing with the effects of the weather.
The storms brought down trees and wires and caused flooding, disrupting travel on roads elsewhere in New Jersey.
Daily Voice reported weather-related lane closures and restrictions across several locations as authorities responded to storm damage and flooding.
The conditions provided a wider backdrop to the 15 flooding calls handled by Glen Rock firefighters, although the department’s account focused primarily on its own response and the rescue of the two occupants.
Fire Department Uses Busy Night To Seek Volunteers
After detailing the evening’s response, the Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department turned attention toward the people responsible for answering those emergency calls and its need for community volunteers in the area.
“If you’ve ever considered making a difference in your community, come see what it’s all about,” the department said.
Anyone interested was invited to stop by the firehouse at 7:30 p.m. on any Thursday to learn more about volunteering with the department.
“It takes a community to protect a community,” the department added. “Come be part of the team.”
The recruitment message followed an evening in which the department’s volunteers had responded to more than a dozen flooding-related calls, including the water rescue.
