In a heartwarming turn of events, a young kitten was rescued from beneath a concrete Jersey barrier by the Converse Fire Department in Converse, Texas. If you’ve ever seen the available space underneath one of these barriers, then you can imagine just how small this little guy was.

According to the post, a motorist had heard the sound of meows while he was stopped at a red light. Instead of moving on with his night, he called the fire department.

To better exemplify how small the space was, the first responders who arrived on scene attempted to lure the kitten out using a handheld wooden board. After careful, coordinated efforts, the kitten was rescued and assessed to be healthy enough for release.

However, it seems that a good Samaritan nearby had other plans. You can see someone place the kitten into a carrier and then into their car before driving away, likely to ensure a good life for the small cat. The best part of the whole video has to be that, in the background, the fire department added the song You’ve Got a Friend in Me from the Toy Story movies.

What Did First Responders Find When They Arrived?

First responders from the Converse Fire Department were called at around midnight on June 11 to a busy road by a concerned driver. The video doesn’t initially show this or how the first responders were able to locate the animal.

When the camera pans over to the cat, you can see that it’s a white tabby with blue eyes. I am no animal specialist, but the kitten didn’t look to be more than a month old, especially considering its size.

The actual rescue required two people, who can be seen lifting the animal out from underneath the barrier. The kitten must have been really stuck, considering the amount of time and care needed to actually pull it out.

What Happened to the Kitten?

After the kitten was rescued by first responders, it was placed into a blue cat carrier. It appeared to be healthy and in good spirits, never once hissing or acting aggressively towards its saviors.

While I was initially confused about how they already had a cat carrier available, it became clear that someone was keen on taking it home. It isn’t clear if the person seen taking the kitten home is the same as the motorist who called, but he looked happy to drive home with a new friend.

Written in the caption of the post, the fire department wrote, “We’re grateful for the citizen who stopped and spoke up—helping bring this little life to safety.”

Reactions to Tiny Kitten Found Under Jersey Barrier in Texas

Plenty of commenters were excited about the fact that the small kitten was rescued. The very top comment reads, “Wow, thank you to the motorist who heard that baby crying & huge thank you to the Converse Fire Department for rescuing it! 👏❤️ We need more people in this world like y’all!”

Similarly, another comment reads, “God is good in all things big or small. Thank you, first responders, for all you do 🙏🏽💐”

While this story acts as a testament to the importance of first responders, it’s also an example of speaking out in order to help someone. Hopefully, the kitten found its forever home.
