While exemplifying that no two traffic stops are ever the same, the deputies at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office came across a driver who both lied about his name and claimed not to know his Social Security number.

Originally, the officer, Officer Smith, only pulled the driver and the passenger over because they weren’t wearing their seatbelts. As the two were putting their seatbelts on, the officer asked for a driver’s license.

When the driver admitted to not having it on him, he gave his name for the officer to look up. However, after looking up the name given, Sam Marshall, it was discovered that the name doesn’t exist in the state.

Even worse, a similar name was found, and when the driver was approached about it, he lied and said it belonged to his younger brother. To try to resolve the issue, the man’s Social Security number was asked for, and he didn’t know it, really putting the officers on his trail.

Traffic Stop Took a Turn After Name Didn’t Match Records

The female officer who initially stopped the red truck that the supposed Sam Marshall was driving had only stopped the vehicle because she had watched it drive for a little bit without any of the passengers wearing seatbelts. That’s when the emergency lights came on, and the driver was instructed to go to a nearby Circle K gas station parking lot.

After the first search for Sam’s name in the system failed, she relayed to the driver that she was able to find a Thomas Marshall. To this, the driver explained that that was his brother.

Upon further investigation, Officer Smith and her partner discovered that there was information on the truck itself that indicated that the driver was indeed Thomas. Even more interesting is the discovery that Thomas Marshall had a warrant out for his arrest.

Turns Out There Was a Reason He Didn’t Want To Talk

It isn’t specified just how long the two officers spent searching for the suspect’s name in the system, but it must have been long enough because Officer Smith can be heard saying, “Bro, this is way harder than it needs to be.”

It was then that she discovered that Marshall is wanted in Bradford County for nationwide extradition for probation violation, dangerous drugs, and more. Now it makes sense why he didn’t want to give his name out.

At this revelation, the two officers asked Marshall to step out of the vehicle, put on his shirt, and seat himself in the police cruiser. He had the audacity to ask what was going to happen next, to which the officers replied with, “You’re going to go to jail.”

The Comments Were About as Honest as You’d Expect

Commenters quickly jumped into the replies under the official Facebook post by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, with some condemning the man’s behavior. Some were even advising others about ‘riding hot.’

One person wrote, “People, if you’re riding hot.\n And make sure you got your seat belt on and don’t speed, simple as that. It’s amazing how so many people wouldn’t even be in jail if they didn’t draw attention to themselves when they’re hot.”

On the other hand, some people felt that natural selection would have taken its course, saying, “I wouldn’t have pulled them over. I look at this level of stupidity as natural selection, let them take themselves out.” No additional information has been released regarding the suspect’s name or charges.
