The 2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E Goes Off The Beaten Path With New Trail Trim

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is getting a little more adventurous for 2027, and this time, outright performance isn’t the main attraction. The electric crossover has gained a new Trail package aimed at drivers who occasionally venture beyond paved roads.

Unlike the more aggressive Mach-E Rally, the new Trail is designed for gravel roads, campsites, and outdoor adventures rather than high-speed driving on loose surfaces. It promises additional capability without sacrificing the everyday practicality of Ford’s electric SUV.

The package is available exclusively on the 2027 Mustang Mach-E Select with electric all-wheel drive. It borrows several components from the Rally while introducing its own suspension tuning and adventure-focused equipment.

Ford is also making some notable changes across the entire Mach-E lineup, including a larger standard battery and a lower starting price. That means the Trail isn’t the only reason to take another look at the electric Mustang.

A Little More Ground Clearance Goes A Long Way

The Mach-E Trail receives revised suspension components that raise its ride height by 10 mm at the front and 15 mm at the rear compared with the Select and Premium models. Those aren’t dramatic increases, but they should provide additional clearance on uneven surfaces.

Ford also borrows the Rally’s steering rack, 19-inch wheels, and Michelin CrossClimate 2 all-season tires. The package adds a black lower front fascia, distinctive wheel graphics, and Trail branding inside the cabin.

Built For Camping, Not Rock Crawling

Standard 400-watt Pro Power Onboard provides electrical outlets in the cargo area and behind the center console. Owners can use them to power camping lights, charge devices, or operate smaller accessories such as electric pumps.

Buyers can also add Thule roof crossbars for carrying outdoor equipment, along with optional all-weather floor mats and cargo protection. The Trail is intended for dirt roads and gravel tracks rather than serious off-road obstacles.

Every 2027 Mach-E Gets A Bigger Battery

Perhaps the biggest change for 2027 is that Ford has eliminated the smaller standard-range battery. Every Mach-E now comes with an extended-range pack, offering 88 kWh of usable capacity on Select and Premium models and 91 kWh on GT and Rally variants.

The lineup now starts at $39,995 for the Select RWD before destination charges, making the extended-range battery available at a lower entry price. A redesigned front electric motor also helps Ford reduce costs without sacrificing performance.

The Mach-E Trail Arrives In Early 2027

Ford says customers can already order the updated Mach-E, with Trail-equipped vehicles expected to arrive during the first quarter of 2027. The optional Trail package costs $2,295, bringing the starting price of a properly equipped Select eAWD to $47,335, including destination charges.

While it won’t challenge dedicated off-road SUVs, the Mach-E Trail offers a practical middle ground between the regular Mach-E and the more aggressive Rally. For buyers who want an electric crossover with a little extra capability for gravel roads and camping trips, it could be a compelling option.
