Ford is being pretty quiet about it at the moment, but the 2027 F-150 pickup truck is getting quite a shakeup when it comes to its powertrains. And for those who like a good old V8 motor, well, you are all going to be in luck.
Ford is bringing more V8 options to the table for the 2027 F-150. The information has come via a leaked dealer order guide, showing that the small EcoBoost V6 has been dropped and that a new base engine is on the way.
Not only that, but the massive 5.0-liter V8 that some trims lost is making its return to them too. While Ford has yet to confirm this officially, the documents are a clear indicator that big changes are on the way and that the base engine will have much more power.
In fact, if the reports are accurate, a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost is to become the standard F-150 engine in the new model year. These same reports also state that it may produce over 400hp, giving customers more grunt for their money, and more torque as well. But it is the V8s that are the real highlight.
The Base 2027 Ford F-150 Will Be More Powerful
For those only interested in the base model, however, the news is still good. The standard 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that we have become familiar with is on the way out. In its place is the aforementioned twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6. Dealer documents and other reports suggest this engine will make 400-418hp and have up to 440lb-ft of torque.
This engine is set to be the standard one available on some of the most well-known trims. So the XL, STX, XLT, and the Lariat should all have this new base engine. The extra power and torque will be welcome for those who thought the 2.7-liter V6 was just a little bit lacking. Ford as a whole is moving towards stronger base engines for models, as it did with some Ford Super Duty trucks.
The addition of the 3.0-liter V6 engine means the base model of the F-150 is much more closely aligned with what its rivals are producing. This is doubly important, as main rival Chevrolet is reshuffling the powertrain options for its 2027 Silverado pickup truck. Ford will not have wanted to be left behind by whatever Bowtie Tie had planned.
V8 Engines Are the Highlight of the 2027 F-150 Range
Of course, the big highlight is the V8 engine. The 5.0-liter Coyote V8 specifically, which is making its return to the upper trims of the F-150 that recently lost the V8. The leaked guide showed that the King Ranch and Platinum trims regain the V8 as an option, and it will have around 400hp and 410lb-ft of torque in total.
In fact, as reported by other outlets, the Coyote engine can be ordered as an option on every non-Raptor F-150 trim. This is perfect for pickup drivers who prefer traditional V8 power, without needing to buy the higher-performance, off-roading model. Given that its main rivals have more of a ‘traditional truck’ feel, the fact that Ford is pivoting towards this is something its customers will be very happy to hear.
