A man in Harris County, Texas, is facing mulitple charges after allegedly street racing while drunk. To top it all off, the man is accused of driving his vehicle with a three-year-old in the back seat.
According to a post made by the Harris County Constable Precinct 5, deputies were on active patrol at the time of the incident. The agents were clearing another unrelated scene.
Suddenly, the deputies heard something out of the ordinary. In the 13500 block of Westheimer Road near Windchase Boulevard, they heard engines being revved.
Moments later, the deputies saw a black BMW speeding right next to a white Mustang, the Precinct 5 said. Little did the deputies know that the alleged street racing was arguably the less worrying aspect of the incident.
Initial Traffic Law Violations
Deputies followed the black BMW from behind. Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop at a red light, but according to Precinct 5, the driver had stopped “well over” the stop line and into the intersection.
As a result, agents attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, they were unsuccessful, as the driver allegedly refused to comply and fled for about 1.5 miles.
Deputies pursued the suspect, who proceeded to drive recklessly. He is accused of weaving in and out of traffic, putting other drivers in danger while violating multiple traffic laws.
Chase Concludes
Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop. The driver didn’t do so willingly, however, as a high-risk vehicle stop was conducted by pursuing deputies.
In the 2900 block of S Dairy Ashford, the driver, who was only identified as a 36-year-old man, was taken into custody. Allegedly, several open beer containers were found on the backseat floorboard.
However, what was most worrying was that Precinct 5 deputies also found a passenger. It was a three-year-old girl, who might potentially be the man’s daughter, although this was not officially confirmed.
Arrested and Charged
Precinct 5 said that the 36-year-old driver showed numerous signs of intoxication. Although unspecified, this led to the man’s arrest and charges.
The driver is charged with felony DWI and felony evading. If convicted of the DWI charge, the man could face years behind bars, especially given the fact that he was allegedly drunk street speeding with a child in the car.
Photos shared by the Precinct 5 showed the vehicle being towed in front of a Burger King. Meanwhile, the three-year-old was placed in her mother’s care. By how the incident was reported, it appears that the girl and the man weren’t injured.
