A man in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, is currently behind bars after he allegedly assaulted a woman and forced her into his truck. He is accused of then leading the police on a high-speed chase and crashing his vehicle, only to be arrested shortly after.
According to a press release issued by the Moncks Corner Police Department (MCPD), the string of events initiated when they received a domestic violence in progress call at around 3:46 a.m. on May 17, 2026.
MCPD officers learned that a male suspect, who is yet to be identified, had allegedly assaulted a female victim at the Circle K located at 2800 Highway 52. Furthermore, police said that the suspect forced the victim into a vehicle’s trunk and then fled the scene.
While attempting to locate the driver, police observed his vehicle traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
High-Speed Chase Begins
The officer’s attempt at a traffic stop proved unsuccessful, as the suspect allegedly refused to comply and fled the scene. A high-speed chase ensued in Moncks Corner, but it was cut short after the suspect reportedly crashed.
The police detailed that the suspect left the vehicle and fled on foot. Thanks to other law enforcement agencies, the suspect was located and arrested. All parties involved in the crash, presumably including the woman who was in the vehicle’s trunk, were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Suspect Arrested, Charges Unannounced
The suspect, whose name has yet to be released by authorities, was then booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center. The MCPD has yet to detail the multiple charges he is facing.
The MCPD did say that there was no ongoing threat to the public and announced that the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. Meanwhile, Moncks Corner Police Chief thanked all responding officers and agencies for their “professionalism, teamwork, and dedication throughout this incident.”
Similar Chase, Days and Miles Apart
Two days before the incident described above, and about 24 miles away from Moncks Corner, a 21-year-old man was arrested after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop and crashing his vehicle.
As reported by ABC4 News, North Charleston Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Peppermill Parkway and Ashley Phosphate Road at around 2:35 a.m. According to the police, officers had witnessed driver Keyonte Michael Gambrell failing to stop at a posted stop sign.
Gambrell allegedly chose to flee, sparking a high-speed pursuit. Eventually, his car struck trees and bushes after running off the roadway, and Gambrell was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with failure to stop for blue lights and disregarding a stop sign.
