Lately, we’ve covered a few stories where people took huge losses when selling almost new luxury vehicles. An unpleasant lesson in depreciation is pretty much the norm when buying a brand-new vehicle and selling it shortly afterward. However, certain high-demand performance vehicles can occasionally break that rule, and that’s exactly what this 2026 Ford F-150 Raptor R did when it recently crossed the virtual auction block on Bring a Trailer.
Finished in Shelter Green and packing Ford’s supercharged Predator V8, it had all the ingredients needed to attract enthusiasts looking for one of the wildest factory pickups available.
Its short ownership period wasn’t entirely spent sitting in a climate-controlled garage either, as the seller accumulated a respectable 3,800 miles on the odometer before deciding it was time for the Raptor R to find another home.
When bidding ended on August 27, the result produced something you don’t often see with a used pickup truck. The winning bid came in comfortably above the price its original owner paid when new.
The Raptor R Sold For $122,500
Bring a Trailer’s auction ended with a winning bid of $122,500. According to AutoEvolution, the original owner purchased the truck new for $116,240, putting the difference between its reported purchase price and auction result at $6,260.
That’s an impressive outcome after 3,800 miles of use, although it doesn’t necessarily mean the seller walked away with $6,260 in actual profit. Taxes, registration, financing costs, and selling-related expenses aren’t accounted for by simply subtracting the two vehicle prices.
There’s another financial detail worth noting, as Bring a Trailer’s listing states that a lien remained on the Raptor R, which means the seller’s lender needed to be paid before the title could transfer to its new owner.
Even with those caveats, selling a used truck for thousands above its reported new purchase price demonstrates the unusual demand surrounding the Raptor R. Most nearly new vehicles would be doing well simply to avoid a substantial haircut.
There’s A 720-HP Supercharged V8 Under The Hood
Of course, this isn’t an ordinary F-150. The Raptor R uses a supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 related to the engine found in the Shelby GT500, although Ford made changes for its life inside the pickup.
It pumps out 720 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, and a 10-speed automatic transmission sends that power through a dual-range transfer case, while an electronically locking rear differential helps when the terrain becomes considerably rougher than an auction-site parking lot.
Ford also equips the truck with Fox Racing Shox featuring dual live-valve technology, along with Terrain Management and Trail Control systems. This example rides on 17-inch forged aluminum beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in chunky BFGoodrich tires.
It’s Loaded With Equipment Too
The Shelter Green exterior is complemented by Raptor R-specific details, including a revised vented hood, Code Orange tow hooks, and R badging. Other equipment includes a dual-panel sunroof, Rigid Industries LED fog lights, power tailgate, spray-in bedliner, cargo lighting, and dual exhaust outlets.
Inside are heated and ventilated Recaro front seats upholstered in black Alcantara and leather, plus heated rear seats and carbon-fiber trim. A 12-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen, surround-view camera, wireless phone charger, and 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system are also fitted.
Bring a Trailer reports that the accompanying Carfax is free from accidents or other reported damage. Aside from an aftermarket antenna, the truck also appears remarkably close to the specification in which it left Ford.
Raptor R Demand Is Still Defying Normal Depreciation
The Raptor R’s combination of limited availability, outrageous performance, and old-school supercharged V8 power has helped make it one of Ford’s most desirable modern trucks. This auction provides another example of buyers being prepared to pay heavily for one without waiting for a new allocation.
While we know the reported purchase price and the final Bring a Trailer bid, we don’t know every expense associated with owning and selling the truck, so the $6,260 difference may not be pure cash profit. Still, it’s pretty special that someone could buy a brand-new 720-hp Raptor R and enjoy it for 3,800 miles without it costing them a small fortune.
