Smart has officially unveiled the all-new #2 at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, marking the return of its iconic two-seat city car. The fully electric newcomer brings back the familiar Fortwo formula with modern technology, improved range, and a surprisingly sophisticated chassis.
The original Smart became famous for squeezing two people into a vehicle small enough to park almost anywhere. Although production of the Fortwo ended in 2024, the company clearly hasn’t abandoned the idea that made it famous.
In recent years, Smart has expanded into larger electric vehicles, including SUVs that bear little resemblance to its original city car. The new #2 takes the brand back to its roots with a compact, rear-wheel-drive design.
It also promises significantly better everyday usability than its predecessor, particularly when it comes to driving range and charging. Here’s what makes Smart’s latest electric runabout interesting.
Tiny Dimensions, Familiar Styling

Measuring just 2,746 mm (108 inches) long, the Smart #2 retains the original’s upright proportions, contrasting roof, and distinctive split tailgate. Its exceptionally tight 6.95-meter (22.8-foot) turning circle should make navigating crowded streets remarkably easy.

Inside, there’s room for two occupants, bench-style seating, and a surprisingly practical 305-liter (10.8-cubic-foot) cargo area. A 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster bring the cabin up to date.
More Range And Better Technology

The #2 uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 80 horsepower (60 kW) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft) of torque. A 35.8-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery delivers a preliminary WLTP range of up to 290 km (180 miles).
Smart claims its 65-kW DC charging capability can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes. The car also features a five-link rear suspension, an upgraded Tridion safety structure, and standard driver-assistance technology.
Three Trim Levels And A Limited Edition

European buyers can choose between Pure, Pure+, and Premium trims, with the latter adding heated seats, a glass roof, and a seven-speaker Sennheiser sound system. A limited Couture Edition introduces white-and-gold styling and will be restricted to 999 examples in Europe.
According to Autocar, UK prices are expected to start at £17,900, with pre-orders scheduled for early 2027. Final pricing and technical specifications remain subject to confirmation, but the #2 already looks well positioned to revive Smart’s original urban-car appeal.
