An investigation into a heartbreaking act of animal abandonment has captured widespread attention after the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance footage of the incident. The video shows a dog being left behind in a parking lot, sparking outrage among viewers who said the animal deserved far better.
As deputies looked into the case, they worked to determine who was responsible and how the dog ended up alone. According to Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the investigation moved quickly, leading authorities to identify a suspect and make an arrest only days after the incident.
Although the surveillance footage played a key role in documenting what happened, investigators uncovered additional evidence that strengthened their case. The Dog Never Knew It Was Being Left Behind
What unfolded on the surveillance video lasted only a few moments, but it was enough to launch a criminal investigation. The footage, shared by Sheriff Wayne Ivey, shows a vehicle entering a parking lot before the driver opens a rear door and allows a small dog to climb out.
The dog appears to exit the vehicle as if nothing is unusual. Seconds later, however, the driver pulls away, leaving the animal alone in the parking lot. According to the sheriff, the incident took place on Monday, and deputies were notified the following day.

As investigators reviewed the footage, they focused on identifying both the vehicle and the person behind the wheel. Their work soon confirmed that the dog seen in the video belonged to the suspect, giving detectives a clear direction for the investigation.
While the surveillance footage documented what happened, Sheriff Ivey said deputies uncovered another piece of evidence that would prove even more valuable as they worked to build the case against the suspect.
One Unexpected Piece of Evidence Sealed the Case
While the surveillance footage gave investigators a clear picture of what happened, Sheriff Wayne Ivey said another piece of evidence made it much easier to identify the person responsible.
According to the sheriff, investigators determined the suspect was Alan Maglor. Because he was on supervised probation, he was required to wear an electronic ankle monitor. That monitoring data, Ivey said, placed Maglor at the parking lot at the exact time the dog was allegedly abandoned, providing investigators with another layer of evidence to support their case.
“So what great evidence, right?” Ivey said during his update. “The ankle monitor puts him right there at the exact time that that was taking place.”
After completing their investigation, deputies arrested Maglor earlier that day. Sheriff Ivey said he was booked into the Brevard County Jail on one count of animal abandonment and one count of violating his probation. The sheriff credited investigators with quickly piecing together the evidence, turning what began as a disturbing surveillance video into an arrest within days.
