The Ford F-150 isn’t getting a ground-up redesign for 2027, but Ford has found plenty of places to make impactful changes. Some address what happens under the hood, while others target how owners actually use their trucks every day.
Ford says more than 75% of F-150 customers use their pickups for towing, while plenty still want traditional V8 power. Off-road buyers, meanwhile, have been watching the prices of trucks like the Tremor and Raptor steadily climb.
The 2027 model attempts to address all three groups while freshening the truck’s appearance. XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models receive redesigned grilles and new wheel choices, although the bigger changes are found elsewhere.
Ford now says there’s a new standard engine, expanded V8 availability, and a new version of BlueCruise designed specifically for towing. There’s even a Carhartt-branded F-150 joining the lineup.
A New 3.0-Liter EcoBoost Becomes The Base Engine
Ford is replacing the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with a new 3.0-liter EcoBoost that shares the smaller engine’s core architecture. Peak output is unchanged at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque, but those numbers don’t tell the entire story.
The new engine develops its peak torque at 2,250 rpm rather than 3,500 rpm, and Ford says it delivers roughly 10–11% more torque through the portion of the rev range commonly used in everyday driving. Maximum towing capacity is 8,400 pounds when properly configured.
Buyers needing more towing capability can still choose the 3.5-liter EcoBoost, which produces 500 lb-ft and can tow up to 13,500 pounds. The 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid is also available with 570 lb-ft and optional 7.2-kW Pro Power Onboard capability.
The 5.0-Liter V8 Is Offered Across The Lineup
The 5.0-liter V8 isn’t going anywhere either. In fact, Ford is expanding its availability for 2027 by returning the naturally aspirated engine to the King Ranch and Platinum for the first time since the 2023 model year.
That means the 400-hp, 410-lb-ft V8 can now be ordered across the regular F-150 trim ladder from XL through Platinum. For buyers who still want the sound and character of a naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine, there are consequently fewer trim restrictions standing in the way.
Ford is also introducing cheaper entry points for the Tremor and Raptor without removing their important off-road hardware. The new base Tremor loses some luxuries, including heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and its upgraded audio system, while the cheaper Raptor gives up equipment such as its head-up display, fog lamps, power passenger seat, and 2-kW Pro Power Onboard.
BlueCruise Can Now Tow Hands-Free
BlueCruise with Towing makes its debut on the 2027 F-150, allowing drivers to use Ford’s hands-free highway assistance while pulling a trailer. The driver must continue watching the road, and the technology works on more than 130,000 miles of pre-qualified divided highways that Ford calls Blue Zones.
Ford says every BlueCruise-equipped 2027 F-150 can access the towing functionality, ranging from XLT and Tremor through Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum. Owners still need an active BlueCruise subscription, but there is no additional fee specifically for the towing feature.
There’s Now A Carhartt F-150
Ford and Carhartt are also expanding their collaboration beyond the Super Duty with the first F-150 Carhartt. Based on an XLT 4×4 Crew Cab, the package adds unique 20-inch wheels, Carhartt badging and graphics, off-road running boards, a dual exhaust, and a Carhartt-branded spray-in bedliner.
Inside are two-tone Carhartt-themed seat covers, accent stitching, and branded all-weather floor mats. Ford says the design draws inspiration from Carhartt’s signature workwear, including its familiar brown duck canvas and triple-stitched construction.
The package costs $4,195, with the complete F-150 Carhartt starting at $62,660 before destination and delivery charges. Orders are open now, with availability expected in early 2027.
None of these changes fundamentally reinvent America’s perennial truck sales leader. They do, however, give 2027 F-150 buyers even more ways to configure exactly the truck they want, which is something we like to see in the modern pickup truck market.
