Two drivers became involved in a road rage incident in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, which almost led to a potentially life-threatening crash. Footage of the back-and-forth showed the two angry individuals going at each other in the middle of an interstate, with one of them breaking through a rear window with his fist and then brandishing a lug wrench.

According to a post made by the Wheat Ridge Police Department (WRPD), the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 10. At the time, the WRPD became aware of a road rage situation on Interstate-70 near W 32nd Avenue.

The footage attached below shows two drivers swerving between lanes. At the time, each of them were brake checking each other.

A semi-truck dashcam was able to capture the potentially violent interaction between the two men. Eventually, the brake checking stopped, and so did their vehicles.

Crash Narrowly Averted

At around the 13-second mark, the clip shows both drivers stopping in their tracks. A sedan driving on the left lane, without knowledge of the stopped vehicles in the middle lane, attempted to overtake the vehicle in front of it.

However, as soon as the sedan’s wheels touched the middle lane, the driver came across the two stopped vehicles. Immediately, the driver veered left, back to its original lane.

The WRPD labeled I-70 “dangerous,” and for good reason. If the vehicle had impacted the white sedan, the people involved could’ve been seriously hurt, even if they were still inside their cars. This, however, changed shortly after.

Interstate Confrontation

The semi truck, for obvious reasons, had to stop on its tracks as well to avoid colliding with the vehicles right in front of it. Then, the man driving the SUV, which stopped right in front of the white sedan, exited his vehicle.

As the man in the white sedan attempted to exit his vehicle, the other individual, as shown in the footage, closed the man’s door, hitting him as a result. He can also be spotted squizzing his arm inside the vehicle, potentially hitting the man directly.

The potentially recently beaten man then exited the white sedan and, while running, punched through the SUV’s rear window, shattering it. He is then shown opening his trunk and grabbing a lug wrench, forcing the other man to stop the escalation of violence.

Disorderly Conduct

The man in the white sedan reentered his vehicle. Meanwhile, the SUV driver is seen checking on his phone, potentially contacting the police.

Apparently, he did, as the WRPD reported that one of the drivers stayed at the scene and contacted the authorities. The Lakewood Police Department then assisted the WRPD with their drones and managed to locate the other driver at the Colorado Mills Mall.

As per the WRPD, both drivers admitted to escalating the road rage situation. They both received a summons for disorderly conduct. Neither of them has been identified.

“This situation was downright dangerous, and these two are lucky they didn’t get hit on the highway. Keep your cool on our roads,” the WRPD concluded.
