Porsche Offers Full Factory Reset for Cars to “Zero Kilometer Condition”

There are instances where people love their cars so much that they never want them to wear out. They want their car’s paint job, engine, interior, and overall driving experience to remain the same over time, despite the odometer reading climbing consistently.

However, you and I know that is not possible, because nearly everything comes with an expiration date, sometimes documented, sometimes not. Cars do wear out as they get old, especially in harsh weather conditions.

The multiple coats of paint wear off over time, the engine gradually loses power over several years, things become loose, body panels show signs of rust, the seats begin to sink in, and repair bills show an upward trend.

However, Porsche customers can make use of a service that can restore their cars to showroom condition, literally, and the brand even resets the odometer to zero miles. That is how confident the German brand is with its Factory Re-Commission program.

What Does the Porsche Factory Re-Commission Program Do?

Porsche’s Factory Re-Commission program is for those customers who wish to take their car back in time to the date when it was brand new. If you’re thinking it is a restoration, then do note that the car is disassembled entirely to be rebuilt as a new car.

According to a post by SupercarBlondie, the brand ensures the car’s mechanical history is reset, as the customer receives a fully overhauled car. What is even better is that once the vehicle is taken apart, owners can choose if they want to have the car look the same or if they intend to give it a fresh look.

Porsche documents the entire re-commissioning of the car from the point of stripping it to the point of making it road-ready, with the odometer reset to zero. One could describe the process as a rebirth of the car.

The Porsche Carrera GT is one such car that went through a Factory Re-commission. Since the owner did not want the car in silver again, they asked the company to have it in red-and-white Salzburg livery inspired by the 1970 Le Mans-winning 917.

Parts of the interior matched the car’s exterior, finished in Alcantara Guards Red. Porsche stated that “parts of the dashboard and door panels, the steering wheel rim, and the center console. Even the front luggage compartment trim and the luggage set bear this haptically pleasant, suede-like material in eye-catching Guards red.”

The owner plans to use their Carrera GT in a new avatar and not store the car in a glass box for eternity. While the service comes with a huge price tag, the Factory Re-Commission program is for those who seek a new experience with their old car, without having to restore it or buy a new one.

Adding more to the Factory Re-Commission program, Porsche said:

“On behalf of customers, the sports car manufacturer’s experts carry out comprehensive technical revisions for vehicles already in their possession, including classic models. During this overhaul in the factory, the vehicle is practically put into a “zero kilometer condition,” which is also documented accordingly.

“In addition, the colour concept for the exterior and interior will be redesigned. There is also the option of retrofitting the Porsche with individual colour and material options.”

Porsche stated further that the old vehicle data is archived for company records. It read:

“The experts check the customer’s ideas for feasibility and work out the details together with them until they are technically approved. This ensures that the result meets Porsche’s quality standards in every detail. The current vehicle data is transmitted to the company archive so that all changes can be traced transparently.”
