A man in Troy, Michigan, was allegedly found drunk in his vehicle outside a local gym. An ambulance responded to the scene, and according to the police, 11 empty vodka bottles were found inside his car.

As reported by WDIV, the incident occurred on Wednesday, June 10. At around 9:19 p.m., officers with the Troy Police Department (TPD) responded to reports of an individual accused of drunk driving.

Officers eventually arrived at the Planet Fitness located on 288 John R Road. According to witnesses, the man in question had been drinking heavily and then proceeded to get behind the wheel.

Agents soon came across the alleged drunk driver. He was driving his vehicle through the parking lot, slowly.

Vodka Bottles Found

Officers approached the man and immediately observed signs of intoxication. As per the TPD, these included a noticeable alcohol odor and slurred speech.

Police then searched the man’s vehicle. Allegedly, they found 11 empty vodka bottles, as well as a bottle that had been partially consumed.

Field sobriety tests were attempted. However, due to the man’s alleged intoxication level, these were not possible. Furthermore, according to the police, the suspect refused to submit a sample for a preliminary breathalyzer test.

Man Arrested

As a result of his denial, the man was placed under arrest. While in custody, police officers also came across a firearm inside his vehicle.

Specifically, the TPD detailed that they recovered a loaded firearm from the center console. The man, who remains unnamed, reportedly has a valid concealed pistol license. He is a 59-year-old man from Sterling Heights.

Given the suspect’s state, an ambulance responded to the Planet Fitness parking lot. He was then transported to Royal Oak’s Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital to receive treatment.

Charged Pending

Once at the hospital, the man eventually agreed to have his blood drawn. After his chemical test rights were read, hospital staff members took a sample of the man’s blood. The results are pending.

After receiving treatment, the suspect was released from custody. A warrant is yet to be issued, meaning that the man will most likely find himself in custody in the near future, possibly after his blood alcohol content (BAC) is confirmed.

In the state of Michigan, the BAC legal limit is 0.08. An operating while intoxicated charge could send a suspect to jail for up to five years, depending on whether it was a first, second, or third offense.

No further information regarding the man’s identity, a mugshot, potential charges, or other factors has been made public.
