A passing motorist helped police track down a Mercedes after its driver allegedly failed to stop for an officer and nearly struck a pedestrian in Nottingham.
The incident unfolded late Saturday, August 15, as PC Frazer Dunn was searching for a black Mercedes he had attempted to stop earlier that night.
During the search, another driver approached Dunn and asked whether he was looking for a black Mercedes.
The motorist told the officer they had seen the Mercedes on Bentinck Road, where it had allegedly come close to hitting a pedestrian. The witness also knew where the car had gone and offered to lead Dunn to its location.
Mercedes Found on Belper Road
The motorist directed Dunn to Belper Road, off Radford Road, where the Mercedes had reportedly been parked in a dead end.
When Dunn arrived, he found a man standing beside a black Mercedes who police said matched the description of the driver he had seen earlier.
Nottinghamshire Police checks indicated the man was disqualified from driving.
Incident Started With Attempted Traffic Stop
The encounter began shortly after 11:30 p.m. when Dunn spotted the Mercedes traveling at speed on Bobbers Mill Bridge.
Dunn activated his emergency lights, but the driver did not stop. The Mercedes instead headed toward Radford and traveled through residential streets.
25-Year-Old Arrested
Police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He was later released on bail as the investigation continues.
