Bystanders and burger fans have been left scratching their heads at the newly remodelled McDonald’s in the Bronx, New York. A gaping hole has been left in the wall of the fast food restaurant after a driver lost control of their car and careened into the side of the building, only a few feet away from the drive-thru.
Witnesses to the incident were shocked to see the car speeding towards the building before the driver flew off the road and smashed through the bricks, burying their car a few feet deep. Then, rather than wait for the emergency services to come and assist, two people climbed out and escaped on foot.
The Honda had hit a line of rocks lining the drive-thru line on the Bruckner Boulevard and Morrison Avenue McDonald’s at high speed. This launched the car into the air and punched it through the wall where, only moments before, there had been a queue of people waiting to pick up their food.
The car was then left, with its back bumper collapsed and front bumper hanging off. Despite the violent crash, the occupants were able to climb out of the wreck before escaping, and without picking up their drive-thru order.
A Lucky Escape
Despite the typically busy drive-thru, the airborne car avoided hitting anyone in the McDonald’s or in the line for food. The vehicle pushed its way surprisingly far through the wall, but nobody was reported injured after the incident.
At present, the location and identities of the driver and passenger haven’t been released, and their well-being or whereabouts aren’t publicly known. However, police are searching for the driver and passenger.
Closed Until Further Notice
The damage to the side of the New York McDonald’s is extensive, and they have announced that they will remain closed until further notice. Footage and images from the scene show a large hole in the brickwork of the building after the car was removed.
A witness to the incident said that they heard the crash before they realised what had happened. “It was like an explosion, a big explosion,” they told News 12. When they went to investigate, they were shocked to see that the driver and passenger were only young. “They got out and started running. I didn’t see their faces, but they were young kids.”
Police are on the hunt for the two passengers of the crashed Honda Accord. They both likely sustained injuries during the accident.
