Nissan just brought back an old-school SUV name, and the result looks far better than expected.
At Auto China 2026, the automaker revealed the new Nissan Terrano Concept.
It revives a badge many enthusiasts remember from the era when SUVs were genuinely rugged.
Based on first impressions, this thing looks built to leave pavement behind.
It Looks Ready For The Trails

The styling is aggressively boxy, and that’s most certainly a good thing.
The Terrano concept features:
- Squared wheel arches
- Chunky off-road tires
- Skid plates
- Auxiliary lights
- Roof rack
- Side ladder
- Rear-mounted spare tire
Nissan also trimmed the bumpers for better approach and departure angles. It looks far more serious than the average crossover pretending to be an off-roader.
It Packs Plug-In Hybrid Power

Nissan confirmed the Terrano uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain, although the full specs haven’t been revealed yet.
However, many believe it shares hardware with the Nissan Frontier Pro PHEV.
If that’s true, output could reach 402 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
The truck version also offers up to 84 miles of EV range under China’s CLTC cycle.
A Production Version Is Coming Soon

This doesn’t appear to be some unrealistic concept car, as it already looks close to production-ready.
Nissan says the production model will launch in China within the next year.
The company also confirmed select global markets will receive it.
Don’t Expect It In America
U.S. buyers probably shouldn’t get their hopes up.
Nissan likely wants to avoid overlap with a future Nissan Xterra revival.
That’s a shame, because this might be one of the coolest SUVs Nissan has shown in years.
