A man in Pierce County, Washington, was placed under arrest after he allegedly attempted to practice “martial arts” outside a store with a metal object. Authorities said that the object ended up being a drug pipe.
According to a post shared by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), the incident occurred on Saturday, July 4. At around 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to a gas station off Mountain Hwy in Spanaway.
The PCSO had received complaints of an individual practicing martial arts outside the gas station. This, of course, led to many customers being scared by his sudden, erratic movements.
With such behavior, deputies knew they had to act fast. And once they actually arrived at the scene, things just got even weirder.
A ‘Ninja Guy’
The footage attached above shows the individual in question, a man labeled the “ninja guy,” standing outside the gas station store. The man, who was only identified as a 53-year-old, can be seen performing his “martial arts” routine, kick included.
The deputy can be seen and heard yelling orders at the suspect, especially because it seemed as if he had something in his hand. Bodycam footage shows the deputy telling the man, as soon as he gets out of his patrol car, to drop what he believed was a knife in his possession.
The ninja guy, however, apparently took offense at the accusation. He screamed back at the deputy, “It’s not a knife!”
Takedown
Still, the deputy continued to order the man to drop whatever he had in his hand. The man, again, complained, but, defeated, threw the item on the ground.
“Thank you,” the deputy said. This, of course, was not an invitation for the suspect to just walk away, which he is seen doing in the deputy’s bodycam.
Still in the zone, the ninja guy resumed his martial arts practice by kicking the air once again. The deputy had enough of the less-than-stellar display of athletics and approached the man and took him down to the ground.
Object Recovered, Charges
The unnamed man continued screaming and resisting arrest, asking what he had done to deserve such treatment, as shown in the PCSO footage. The deputies handcuffed him and placed him under arrest.
The deputy’s initial guess was wrong. The item that the man had in his hand was not actually a knife but a metal tutor for smoking drugs, the sheriff’s office said.
The 53-year-old man is charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. If convicted of all charges, he could face up to 360 days in jail.
