A street takeover in Suffolk County apparently didn’t get much of an opportunity to take over anything. Police say they were already watching the group before eventually swooping in and ending the party with 15 arrests.

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, its Street Takeover Task Force used intelligence gathering and social media monitoring to follow a group of individuals as they moved through multiple locations. Officers eventually intercepted them in Medford before things could get much further.

By the time police were finished, 15 people had been arrested, seven vehicles had been impounded, and multiple summonses had been issued. The department didn’t provide individual details about those arrested or specify exactly what happened immediately before officers moved in.

Police did, however, make it clear that spectators aren’t necessarily safe from consequences simply because they aren’t behind the wheel. According to the department, its crackdown will continue targeting both people participating in street takeovers and those who show up to watch them.

This Street Takeover Didn’t Last Very Long

Please give the video below a moment to load completely.

The video is pretty wild, with various bystanders standing on a street as a vehicle performs donuts in front of them. Each spin dragged the tires against the asphalt, creating a loud screeching noise that filled the air and smoke that blocked everyone’s view.

However, the clip immediately cuts to several officers pulling up alongside cars that were part of the street takeover while on the road. According to the video, 15 people were arrested, and a total of seven vehicles were impounded.

Information on the specific vehicles involved or the names of any suspects was not included in the police report.

Commenters Already Have Plans for the Impounded Cars

Commenters were overwhelmingly supportive of the crackdown, although quite a few seemed considerably more interested in what would happen to those seven impounded vehicles. One person immediately suggested that the police “seize their vehicles and sell them at auction,” while another simply wanted to know when the police auction would take place.

Others weren’t particularly interested in seeing the cars returned to the road at all. Suggestions ranged from sending them “right to the shredder” to taking the vehicles “to the crusher,” showing that some commenters apparently wanted the punishment to extend well beyond a tow truck ride.

One person jokingly looked at the situation from the perspective of a potential buyer, thanking police for giving them another opportunity to potentially score a deal on a nice car. Another specifically told the department to make sure the vehicles were auctioned rather than eventually returned to their owners.

Beyond the impounded cars, people praised Suffolk County Police for increasing enforcement against street takeovers, with one commenter saying the consequences needed to be significant. Judging by the responses, 15 arrests were welcome, but seeing those seven cars permanently taken away would apparently be the real grand finale for some commenters.
