More Than 8,000 Ram 2500 Trucks Are Recalled Over Sudden Loss Of Stability Control

Ram is recalling 8,329 heavy-duty pickup trucks in the United States over a defect that could disable their electronic stability control system without warning. The recall affects certain 2026 Ram 2500 models, potentially leaving drivers without an important safety feature when they need it most.

As reported by Kelley Blue Book, the problem involves a faulty steering column control module. An internal malfunction can interrupt the electronic stability control system, increasing the risk of a crash.

The issue is particularly concerning for a heavy-duty truck designed to carry substantial loads and tow large trailers. Stability control helps prevent skidding and loss of control, especially during sudden maneuvers or on slippery roads.

Fortunately, Ram has identified a repair, and affected owners won’t have to pay for it. Dealerships will replace the defective module with an updated component.

A Faulty Module Can Disable Stability Control

The recall covers 2026 Ram 2500 pickups manufactured between September 13 and November 15, 2025. These trucks may contain a steering column control module that develops an internal fault, disabling electronic stability control.

The system normally monitors vehicle movement and can selectively apply the brakes or reduce engine power to help drivers maintain their intended direction. Losing that assistance during an emergency maneuver could make a dangerous situation harder to manage.

According to the recall documentation, drivers may receive no warning before the system stops working. The electronic stability control warning light illuminates only after the faulty module resets.

An Earlier Recall Has Been Expanded

This isn’t the first time Ram has addressed the problem. An earlier recall, announced in April 2026, covered 6,605 trucks with potentially defective steering column modules.

The latest campaign, identified as NHTSA recall 26V-651 and manufacturer recall 90D, covers 8,329 trucks. Both recalls address the same underlying stability control issue.

Ram Dealers Will Replace The Module For Free

Ram dealerships will install a redesigned steering column control module at no charge to owners. The repair involves replacing the affected component rather than simply updating its software.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning November 24, 2026. However, owners don’t need to wait for a letter to check whether their trucks are included. They can enter their vehicle identification number at the NHTSA recall website, or contact FCA customer service.

For owners who depend on their Ram 2500 for work, towing, or everyday transportation, checking the recall status is a sensible precaution. A system designed to help keep a heavy truck under control is one worth making sure works properly.
