A 23-year-old Kroger employee in Toledo, Ohio, was working her usual Sunday shift when a coworker approached her with a photograph of her Jeep sitting on bricks in the parking lot. Both wheels on the driver’s side were gone.

The woman initially thought the photograph was fake. She had parked outside the grocery store on Jackman Road, and nothing seemed unusual when she arrived for work.

Someone had apparently removed both wheels, along with the rims and other components, while the store was open and customers were coming and going.

Now, the employee is facing a $500 insurance deductible and an uncertain wait to get her Jeep repaired, all because of a theft she believes happened within minutes.

A Surprising Discovery

The employee, who asked not to be identified, described the discovery during an October 19 interview with 13 Action News reporter Alexis Means.

A coworker approached her during a break and showed her the photograph on his phone. She initially assumed he was playing a joke.

But when she saw the Jeep for herself, the damage was real. Both driver-side wheels had been removed, and the vehicle was left supported by a brick.

The missing parts included the tires, rims, lug nuts, and hubs, according to the employee.

Gone Within Minutes

One of the most surprising details was how quickly the theft appeared to have happened.

The woman said another person reported seeing her Jeep intact at approximately 4:10 p.m. By 4:13 p.m., someone had alerted her that its wheels were missing.

That leaves a roughly three-minute window between the two observations, although the exact time of the theft has not been independently established.

The employee was also puzzled by why someone would target her vehicle. She described the Jeep as an older model with factory wheels rather than expensive aftermarket modifications.

Despite the busy parking lot and daylight conditions, no suspect had been publicly identified when 13 Action News reported the incident.

It was also unclear whether Kroger’s surveillance cameras had captured the people responsible.

An Unexpected Expense

The missing wheels have left the employee without her usual transportation to work.

She told 13 Action News that her insurance deductible is $500, an expense she had not planned for. Her Jeep also needs to be towed and repaired before she can drive it again.

With no confirmed repair timeline, she has been relying on people willing to give her rides.

The employee said she hoped to have the Jeep repaired within several days or a week, although she did not know how long the process would actually take.

Meanwhile, she said Kroger had been helpful and was reviewing surveillance footage to assist police in identifying those responsible.

As of the October 19 report, there had been no confirmation that the footage showed the theft or that anyone had been identified.
