An estimated 25,000 to 35,000 carjackings occur in the US every year, and according to research, around 50% of these involve a firearm. However, a group of four teen thieves chose the wrong man to mess with, and ended up getting a kicking rather than a new car.

In Maryland, at 4.45 pm, Marine Corps veteran Jheyco Borda was working on his truck on the street. Four young men approached him while he was distracted, and attempted a carjacking in broad daylight.

The four surrounded Borda, and one of them pulled a gun. Pointing the firearm at his head, they demanded he hand over the keys and his cell phone. But the veteran wasn’t one to be intimidated by young men with a gun, and rather than cave to their demands, he decided to take action.

In broad daylight, Borda struck back. He was banking on the fact that the teens were simply posturing with the gun, and with decisive, aggressive action, he would be able to overpower them before they managed to make a fatal mistake.

A Single Shot

Taking the initiative, the Marine Corps veteran grabbed the hand wielding the weapon and began to struggle with the hooded carjacker. He had counted on the others being too shocked and scared to back up their fellow thief, and it paid off. As he wrestled with the gunman, two others ran, while the third hid on the other side of the vehicle.

Within seconds, Bordas’ brother had run from the house and joined the fray. Now, there was only the gunman and two large men wrestling for control of the gun. The second carjacker approached, but was quickly beaten back by the brother. A single shot was fired.

Thankfully, it hit nobody. Within only a few minutes, the two remaining thieves had been wrestled to the floor by the brothers. The teens were restrained on the floor until Prince George’s County police arrived and took all four of the attackers into custody.

They Chose The Wrong Guys

Speaking to Fox5, Borda thanked his Marine training for his cool demeanor and his ability to disarm and disable the teen while staring down the barrel of a loaded gun. “Once a Marine, always a Marine. It took me just one split second. We went to training for the Marines, and that came out right at the moment.”

Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt. The biggest casualty was the egos of the 4 carjackers that, despite being armed and outnumbering their victim, were disarmed, thrown to the floor, and arrested. However, the discharged bullet didn’t go far, and ended up burying itself in the bodywork of Bordas’ truck.
