A man in San Francisco, California, was placed under arrest after he allegedly broke into a family home and stole their vehicle. As per the police, the man was placed in handcuffs while wearing the victim’s clothes.
According to a news release issued by the San Francisco Police Department, the incident occurred on Friday, July 3. Initially, officers responded to a Northern District residence after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle.
Upon arrival, the SFPD learned from the occupants that a stranger had broken into their home and burglarized it. The family who lived there was asleep when this occurred.
Terrified, the family came across an empty garage. The suspect had taken their vehicle, as well as other items, including clothes.
Vehicle Located
Immediately, the SFPD made use of its Automated License Plate Reader technology. Shortly after, the Real Time Investigation Center received an alert that the stolen vehicle was traveling through the city.
A police drone was launched to assist during the investigation. Meanwhile, a multi-unit group of plainclothes officers also coordinated a surveillance effort on the stolen car.
In the Southern District, the suspect decided to enter an alley and exit the car, the police said. He was then taken into custody, as shown in the video attached above, without incident.
Borrowed Clothes
The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Dylan Ward. Even though the burglary had occurred earlier in the day, Ward was already wearing clothing items he had just illegally acquired, the SFPD said.
He, however, feigned ignorance, asking the officers during his arrest, “What did I do?” One agent just clapped back, “You’re under arrest.”
Then, the officers opened the vehicle that was reported stolen. Shocked, they came across a huge variety of items that had been taken away from the Northern District home. While the items located inside the vehicle were blurred, items such as golf clubs, picture frames, and even a bug GOOTOP bug zapper could be observed.
Charged
Dylan Ward is now facing multiple serious charges. These include first-degree burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and possession of stolen property.
If convicted of his burglary charge, the 28-year-old man could face up to six years behind bars. He might also be ordered to pay up to $10,000 in fines.
Ward was booked into the San Francisco County Jail. No mugshot was provided by the SFPD, and the suspect’s face, just like the stolen items, was blurred in the shared bodycam footage.
