A English man in his 50s sustained serious head injuries after a confrontation with a driver while crossing a road. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) found he had been attacked on Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne, according to the BBC. It seemed the incident was inspired by a fit of road rage, but it’s unclear what started it.
Officers received reports at about 5:15 p.m. local time on Saturday that someone had been seriously injured. The man was crossing the road on foot at the time. He had set out from nearby Keane Street, police said.
Once in the street, he became involved in an altercation with the driver of a vehicle, police said. He suffered the head injuries during the exchange. Officers have offered few other details about what took place.
A 32-year-old man was arrested and held on suspicion of assault. He remained in custody for questioning, but no charge had been announced as of the latest update. There still hasn’t been another update regarding how he’ll be approached now that he’s in custody.

As with cases that are usually quite similar to this situation, detectives have asked anyone with information about the attack to provide any potential details. They’re especially interested to hear from anyone in the area between 5 and 5:50 p.m. They also want any dashcam, security camera, or cell phone footage from that window of time if possible.
Investigators are also trying to track down a specific vehicle seen at the scene. GMP described it as a dark-colored station wagon or “estate car”. Anyone who recognizes it, or who saw what happened, has been asked to contact the police to potentially figure the situation out.
Much about the incident has yet to be established. Police haven’t said yet what sparked the dispute between the two men, or who started it. They also didn’t share anything about the victim’s condition.
