How mad has a driver made you in the past? Did you run out of your car to kick their car? We’re willing to bet you didn’t, and honestly, it’s good if you skipped out on that kind of behavior. But one man in Australia in a video shared by 9News shows a man running across multiple lanes of traffic in to do just that. He’s seen kicking the door of a woman’s car, then seemingly berating her in the footage. The man has not been identified.
First he crossed several lanes of moving traffic on foot. He reached the woman’s vehicle and then reared back to kick the driver’s side door window. The clip does not show what happened afterward, but it seemed there was some sort of serious rage that preceded the incident.
A lot of the situation remains unclear, actually. Nothing in the material released with the video establishes whether the glass broke or whether the woman was hurt, though it appears there wasn’t a lot if any damage done. It seems that, whatever occurred, the man found it necessary to sprint across traffic and get his say in, in a physical manner at that.
The behavior itself is not unusual in Queensland, where survey data suggests aggressive driving is common and getting worse. RACQ found in a 2024 survey that more than 20% of Queensland motorists admitted to verbally abusing other drivers or tailgating them, according to RACQ. Leaving a vehicle to confront another driver sits at the more serious end of that spectrum.
What to Do If Another Driver Confronts You
If someone does this to you, our advice is to not engage. You don’t have to stoop to others’ levels when these events occur. Stay in your vehicle with the doors locked and the windows up, avoid eye contact or gestures, and resist the impulse to respond in kind. You don’t have to be a bully too. Someone being followed or approached is generally advised to drive to a busy public place or a police station rather than home, and to call police rather than attempt to handle it themselves.
Reporting matters even when the other driver cannot be named. Complaints with footage that clearly identify a driver or a vehicle receive the most thorough investigation when you have police involved, which is why dashcam footage and a registration number can be so helpful. But the number one thing to keep in mind is your safety, and you should work to do anything that can guarantee that.
The roads should be a safe place, and we shouldn’t see these types of incidents occurring, period. Be mindful out there.
