A wrong-way Honda CR-V traveling at high speed struck a BMW head-on in Las Vegas, critically injuring both drivers and sending debris into seven other vehicles, including five parked at a nearby dealership.

The October 15 crash happened around 11:27 a.m. on West Sahara Avenue, east of Tenaya Way. Police identified the Honda driver as 58-year-old Corazon Blackwell, who was subsequently booked in absentia on reckless driving-related charges.

The collision prompted an unusually forceful public warning from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, which reported that six people had died on area roadways over the preceding couple of weeks.

Nearby workers also described previous crashes and raised concerns about speeding, traffic signals, and the design of the roadway.

In the department’s video statement, Captain Jarvis Dudley of LVMPD’s traffic division expressed frustration with the continued serious crashes.

“Enough is enough,” Dudley said, urging motorists not to drive while impaired or when experiencing a medical problem that could affect their ability to operate a vehicle safely.

The department emphasized that the cause of Thursday’s collision remained unknown. Its warning about impairment was a general safety message, not a determination that impairment caused this crash.

Head-On Impact

According to crash details released by LVMPD and reported by KTNV, Blackwell was driving a 2022 Honda CR-V eastbound in the westbound lanes of Sahara Avenue at a high rate of speed.

After passing Tenaya Way, the Honda moved right for an undetermined reason and struck a westbound 2025 BMW iX driven by a 39-year-old man.

The impact heavily damaged both vehicles. Flying debris also struck a Hyundai and a Mercedes-Benz traveling behind the BMW, although their drivers were not injured.

Another five vehicles parked at a nearby car dealership sustained damage from debris.

Both primary drivers were transported to University Medical Center’s trauma center in critical condition.

Witnesses Describe Damage

In a FOX5 Las Vegas report, James White, who works at a business near the intersection, described the wreckage left behind.

White said the destruction was so extensive that he initially feared someone had died.

A witness who shared photographs with FOX5 reported seeing a wheel detach from the Honda and strike multiple other vehicles. She also described damage that appeared to have separated major mechanical components from the vehicle.

White recalled another serious motorcycle collision near the intersection. He described the roadway as particularly dangerous and expressed concerns about drivers traveling too fast.

Another woman interviewed by FOX5 recounted an earlier collision while waiting to exit a nearby parking lot. She called for additional traffic monitoring and improved signals.

Charges And Investigation

Police said Blackwell was booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center on reckless driving-related charges while hospitalized.

An impaired-driving investigation was also conducted, but police had not established impairment as a contributing factor in the released findings.

The LVMPD Collision Investigation Section continued investigating the collision.
