A Las Vegas man is facing a long list of charges after he allegedly decided that a domestic dispute was best resolved by driving straight through the front doors of a Dollar Tree, then pulling out a knife to attack a woman inside.
For those keeping score at home, that is a lot of bad decisions packed into one Monday.
Shawn Handley, 45, was booked on suspicion of 10 counts following the incident, which unfolded near Craig Road and Decatur Boulevard, according to arrest and court records. Among the charges is attempted murder, which puts this well beyond a routine misdemeanor situation.
What Happened Inside That Dollar Tree
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Handley was in the middle of a domestic dispute when he allegedly drove his vehicle through the front entrance of the store. At this point, car enthusiasts might note that using your car as a battering ram is not what manufacturers mean when they advertise “impressive entry.” The airbags were probably not the only thing that deployed.
After exiting the vehicle, Handley allegedly began attacking a woman with a knife. That is when another person on the scene stepped in and opened fire on him. Police arrested Handley and detained the shooter, while the victim was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Handley’s first court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Given the 10 counts stacked against him, he is going to need far more than a dollar to get out of this one.
