A rollover crash on Interstate 65 turned into a four-person rescue on August 14, and body camera footage gives viewers a firsthand look at how quickly Trooper Blaine Miller had to act.
The footage, shared by Trooper Washer of the Kentucky State Police, shows Miller working to rescue four members of the same family after their SUV rolled several times and came to rest on its side. Rather than simply showing the aftermath, the trooper’s point of view puts viewers right alongside him as he works to get everyone out safely.
What stands out almost immediately is how calm Miller remains throughout the rescue. The occupants can be heard sounding distressed at times, while Miller keeps his voice steady, repeatedly reassuring them and giving simple instructions as he works to get them out.
Fortunately, all four family members were rescued from the vehicle. Judging by the response to the footage, viewers were especially impressed by how Miller managed to stay cool, calm, and collected when the people inside needed exactly that.
Trooper Gets to Work Breaking Through Windshield to Save Family

The video shows Trooper Blaine Miller driving toward the scene and approaching the SUV, which had come to rest on its side. Another person is already outside the vehicle when Miller arrives.
Using his baton, Miller breaks through the front windshield to create an opening for the family. He can be heard telling the occupants to close their eyes while he breaks the glass, repeatedly reassuring them that they are all right, and directing them to crawl toward him while warning them to watch the broken glass.
Kentucky State Police said the SUV was smoking and beginning to catch fire during the rescue, although flames are not readily visible in the body camera clip. Miller can also be heard telling someone inside to turn the vehicle off as he works to get the family out.
One by one, Miller helps each of the four family members through the opening. After confirming that everyone is out, he tells them EMS is on the way, directs them to sit down and catch their breath, and even offers to see if he has some water.
All four family members sustained minor injuries and were taken to Baptist Health Hardin, where they were treated and released.
Commenters Praise Trooper for Staying Calm When It Mattered Most
Commenters overwhelmingly praised Miller’s response, with several pointing specifically to his demeanor throughout the rescue. One person called him “cool, calm, and collected,” while another said his professionalism and ability to remain calm “made a world of difference.”
Others were impressed by how quickly he jumped into action. “Hell of a job, Trooper. No hesitation,” one commenter wrote.
The footage also sparked some discussion about the equipment officers carry for getting into damaged vehicles. One person argued that every officer should have an effective window-breaking tool, while others discussed whether breaking through a sunroof or windshield could provide a faster way into a vehicle during similar rescues.
For most commenters, though, the equipment wasn’t what made the biggest impression. It was watching Miller remain composed while four people depended on him, with one mother saying she especially appreciated his “calm, reassuring demeanor” and another commenter declaring that state troopers “don’t get enough credit for what they do.”
