Two men in Kentucky found themselves running in opposite directions after deputies attempted to pull over their Nissan Altima for displaying a fictitious Tennessee license plate. While one man was quickly apprehended, the other managed to escape across a bypass and into a field, only to be arrested hours later when someone arrived to pick him up.

According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on October 12, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., near Barton Drive and Paris Road in the Mayfield area. Deputies spotted a 2011 Nissan Altima displaying a fictitious Tennessee license plate and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

Instead of stopping, the driver continued onto Commonwealth Drive before entering an apartment complex, where both occupants abandoned the vehicle. The two men immediately fled in opposite directions, leaving deputies to pursue them on foot.

Deputies apprehended the driver, identified as 42-year-old Oscar Orlando, but the passenger managed to escape the immediate search. The passenger, identified as 36-year-old Escober Castillo Wifredo, reportedly ran across the bypass, jumped a fence, and disappeared into a nearby field.

Although deputies initially lost sight of Wifredo, his escape came to an end later that afternoon when he emerged from the field. At approximately 4:40 p.m., authorities observed him getting into another vehicle, which deputies subsequently stopped before taking him into custody.

According to the sheriff’s office, Wifredo was carrying a Honduran identification card that helped investigators identify him following his arrest. Detention records list him as Escobar Wilfredo and show a pending misdemeanor charge of third-degree fleeing or evading police stemming from the October 12 incident.

Meanwhile, deputies determined that Orlando also possessed a Honduran identification card, which was used to establish his identity. Investigators further learned that both men had traveled to the Mayfield area from the Nashville, Tennessee, area, although the sheriff’s office did not explain why they were visiting Kentucky.

Driver Faces Multiple Charges

According to detention records, Orlando faces a felony charge of second-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, along with misdemeanor charges including resisting arrest, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, operating without a license, and failing to maintain required insurance. Additional allegations involve registration violations and failure to wear a seat belt, with all listed charges remaining pending.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office also noted that investigators had not identified the actual owner of the 2011 Nissan Altima. Although the vehicle displayed a fictitious Tennessee license plate, authorities did not identify it as stolen or accuse either man of stealing it.

Both men were initially transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being transferred to a detention facility outside the county. The Mayfield Police Department and Kentucky State Police assisted in the investigation, which ended with both occupants in custody after their separate attempts to flee.
