It Looks Like Fernando Alonso Has Bought a Bugatti EB110 Supercar

The Bugatti EB110 is still regarded as one of the greatest supercars of all time. It was the only car made under Romano Artioli’s incarnation of the company, with only 139 of them built by Bugatti, while a handful were built after the company went bankrupt by Dauer.

The EB110 was popular with motorsport drivers as well. Seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher owned an EB110 for many years. But it looks as if another F1 racing legend, this time Fernando Alonso, has got a real soft spot for the Bugatti supercar.

Alonso was recently spotted driving around the streets of Monaco in a Bugatti EB110, where the current Aston Martin driver lives. Alonso loves his cars, so it is no surprise that he has a collection worth around $32 million in total, which includes cars like the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Now, it would appear Alonso has bought an EB110, perhaps as a little treat to offer some consolation from what has been an awful 2026 F1 season so far. And if he has bought the car, then it is very clear that Alonso has excellent taste in his automobiles.

Alonso’s Bugatti EB110 Drew in the Crowds

Alonso is visible in a YouTube video driving the car alone, as he drives through the principality on parts of the roads used for the F1 track. The finish on the supercar is exceptional, with the car painted in a stunning and subtle maroon color, contrasting nicely with the usual Bugatti blue we see them in.

It still has its original halogen headlights, something that makes a nice change in a world full of LED headlights and taillights. Even though Alonso is just cruising around at a lower speed, we can still hear a lovely howl coming from the massive V12 under the hood. The EB110 arguably still has one of the best supercar engines ever made.

Under the hood, it has a 3.5-liter quad-turbocharged V12 engine producing 553hp and 451lb-ft of torque. The car is an enthusiast’s dream, thanks to its six-speed manual transmission as well as its all-wheel drive system. The top speed is 212mph and it can go from 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. That is exceptionally fast, even compared to more modern supercars from the last ten years or so.

The EB110 Is an Exceptionally Rare Supercar

The EB110 was the only car produced under the Romano Artioli incarnation of Bugatti. From 1991 to 1995, 139 examples were built by Bugatti. The original prototype had been designed by Marcello Gandini before Giampaolo Benedini was given the task of penning the production version, as well as the car’s interior. Bugatti built the EB110 to compete with the likes of the Jaguar XJ220, Ferrari F50 and F40, the Lamborghini Diablo, and the McLaren F1.

In 1995, Bugatti went bankrupt. This was down to several factors, including Artioli’s purchase of Lotus for $50 million, the cost to develop the EB112 saloon, and the fact that it missed payments to several suppliers from 1993 onwards. Bugatti did at least manage to produce the Super Sport version alongside the GT model of the EB110, which had a slight power increase up to 603hp.

Some Continuation Models Were Also Produced

Alonso’s EB110 is a genuine Bugatti example. However, after Bugatti went bankrupt, Dauer Sportwagen of Germany bought the remaining EB110 parts and chassis to produce a few more examples of the car. Three Super Sports and a GT model were built, and Dauer used the remaining chassis to create the EB110 Super Sport Light Weight. Power was increased to 645hp, although a sports exhaust and modified ECU could see that rise to 705hp.
