General Motors may have made quite an error with select vehicle models featuring 24-inch wheels, which has now led it to recall around 2,500 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall report indicates that supplier manufacturing records and vehicle service records were used to identify the affected vehicles across multiple brands under GM’s umbrella.
There remains a threat to customers driving affected vehicles, as the incorrect bolts could lead to a crash, heightening the risk of injury.
A total of seven field complaints related to the incorrect front wheel hub bolts were reported, which contributed to the recall.
GM Vehicles Affected by the Incorrect Front Wheel Hub Bolts

According to the NHTSA, the issue has affected a total of twelve GM models, totaling 2,464 vehicles. They include:
- 2025 Cadillac Escalade – 737 units
- 2026 Cadillac Escalade – 647 units
- 2025 Cadillac Escalade ESV – 411 units
- 2026 Cadillac Escalade ESV – 335 units
- 2025 GMC Yukon – 12 units
- 2026 GMC Yukon – 49 units
- 2025 GMC Yukon XL – 7 units
- 2026 GMC Yukon XL – 21 units
- 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe – 83 units
- 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe – 51 units
- 2025 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 – 76 units
- 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 – 35 units
The recall report states that dealers may have used incorrect bolts while installing a brake package on these vehicles. It reads:
“General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2025 – 2026 model year Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles with 24-inch wheels. Dealers may have used incorrect bolts to install an accessory brake package or service the front wheel-hub bearings on these vehicles. The bolts may loosen or deform over time.”
However, the problem is specific to those vehicles “with 24-inch wheels that (a) received the dealer-installed accessory brake package (RPO 5JL) or (b) received a front hub replacement in service.”
Associated Warnings and Safety Risks
The NHTSA states in its recall report that owners driving any of the vehicles mentioned above may feel vibration or hear an unusual noise if the wheel hub is fitted with incorrect bolts.
If one or more bolts fail, the vehicle may lose control. The report added:
“If a bolt breaks or completely loosens during vehicle operation, additional load could be placed on the three remaining bolts and lead to partial loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.”
The issue was identified in April 2026 by a GM product investigator, who found that “the kit provided to dealers for installation of an accessory brake package (RPO 5JL) did not include separate instructions or special fasteners for vehicles equipped with 24-inch wheels, as required by GM’s specifications.”
Consequently, “dealers may have incorrectly reused production-installed bolts. GM also found that its electronic parts catalog (EPC) did not identify the correct bolt for service operations involving replacement or reattachment of the front hub bearing on vehicles equipped with 24 inch wheels.”
GM is unaware of any crashes or injuries that may have arisen due to the wheel hub bolt issue. The company’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided on May 7 to conduct the safety recall.
NHTSA’s Remedy Program
