A man in Marietta, Georgia, is accused of stealing an ambulance while intoxicated. Allegedly, when asked, the man said that he had done so because he was “saving the world.” Now, he is facing multiple charges in connection with the incident.

As reported by the Marietta Daily Journal, citing a Marietta Police Department arrest warrant, the incident occurred at around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, May 15. WSB-TV detailed that the suspect, then identified as 38-year-old Eric Jacore Jordan, was previously at Kennestone Hospital.

A police report cited by the outlet detailed that the Georgia man was attempting to enter the hospital through the Emergency Medical Services bay. He was refused entry, however, and he initially complied.

Then, allegedly, Jordan continued to attempt to enter the hospital through other secure doors, including a pediatrics door. An off-duty officer told him he wasn’t allowed to do so and directed him toward the front entrance. He, however, walked across Church Street.

Ambulance Stolen

The off-duty officer remained at the hospital while Jordan left. Moments later, however, he heard, on a dispatch radio, that a subject matching Jordan’s description had stolen an ambulance.

Turns out, Jordan had allegedly stolen the emergency vehicle at a RaceTrac convenience store on Church Street. The off-duty officer, who remained unnamed, responded to the call.

Accompanied by another officer, Jordan was pulled over, and he was asked for his driver’s license. Allegedly, he couldn’t provide it, and he even kept pacing when he was instructed to stand in front of the patrol vehicle. He was handcuffed as a result.

‘Saving the World’

While Jordan remained detained, multiple witnesses arrived at the hospital. The ambulance’s driver identified him as the culprit, and an EMT supervisor provided a video that showed Jordan allegedly drinking a beer while driving the ambulance without a seatbelt.

An interview with Jordan was carried out shortly after. An officer allegedly noted a strong smell of alcohol coming from him and also pointed out that his eyes were glossy and bloodshot.

Most importantly, when asked why he took the ambulance, Jordan’s response was out of the ordinary. He said, as per the police, that he had done so “for the purpose of saving the world.”

Arrested and Charged

Given the evidence obtained during the investigation, Eric Jacore Jordan is facing multiple charges. These include driving under the influence, felony theft by taking greater than $1,500, driving with a suspended license, without a seatbelt, and with an open container.

If convicted of his felony theft by taking charge, he could face years in prison. Depending on how the charge is ultimately classified, he could serve up to 20 years behind bars.

Jordan was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. As of May 22, he remained in custody without bond.
